What with the Syrian situation heating up, thought I would bring up a practical side topic.

The only time it is really, really worth watching CNN is when there is a good war on tv. You know, they sometimes put on a really good show, top notch entertainment. Remember nose cone cameras in the missiles? Lots of ex military types analyzing strategy? Some reporter pretending to dodge incoming scud missiles? Cut aways to breathlessly important announcements from random politicians? So much fun to watch!

They always manage to make it exciting without actually showing you any people getting killed. Sometimes they even had comic relief like the Iraqi info guy.

It really is great tv. Especially if they can get the time zone thing squared and run the war during prime time.

Great night to sit home and watch tv. That and playoffs are the only times I am motivated to eat dinner in front of the television.

Wondering what others like to eat in front of the tv on nights when there's a good war on. Personally I think a take out burger and fries, with a big soda, captures the zeitgeist of watching a war on CNN.

Sports game maybe fits a pizza and wings, but to enjoy a good war I think you need a cheese burger.

Anthony Bourdain's show - Parts Unknown- on CNN is actually pretty cool.

I heard they had Strombo on trial basis for a show too... I didnt see it, was it any good?

Very rare spare ribs and then chew on the bones.

MONTREAL!!!
What about every time you read a story that there is another spike/leak at Fukushima?

I prefer some nice tuna roll because with the shit that is going on with no end in sight, fish is going to be an expensive delicacy in the coming future. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

Wow, great to know that in the face of carnage, governmental attacks and crippling anguish of Syrian people your thoughts go to what kind of food goes well with this setting. If there is any hope for humanity someone needs to show me where it is.

It's called gallows humour and it's what keeps many of us sane. Other people go for a certain strident earnestness, but I find it can come across as a bit shrill. Still, whatever floats yer boat.

Great topic!

When I was watching Saddam's hanging it was jerk chicken. Good stoning videos require a nice sharp head cheese and cracker combo. Beheadings are always good with sliced cold cuts and pickles. A good whipping/lashing video often calls for a nice brasied tenderloin and grilled asparagus.
War coverage is a tough call due to the wide range of images/sounds that you might be confronted with. Meaning, you dont want to be all decked out for a good bombing scene (say cheeseburger and fries) and then be exposed to just dead bodies after a good gassing (venison with a mustard glaze and challots). Timing is everything but definitely can be a hit or miss thing. BUT if you get some good intel that the bombs are raining down definitely fire up the grill for those cheeseburgers......

Carnage increases some individuals appetites for food and sex, why is that?

I really don't have a retort for a lightweight comment that treats real people dying in real wars as a joke.

Even M*A*S*H was not a joke - it was a protest.

Considering you ran away from my challenge to make matching donations to MSF`s Syrian campaign you have no place in this thread.

If anyone wants to see how truly pathetic and hateful groggy is, check it out his response to my challenge. Lies and slurs, anything to avoid sending help to Syria.

I tried again a few weeks later, same slime:
