Everyone has their favorite home remedies. Mine is Echinacea tea and Zicam. The combo usually knocks down my colds in a couple of days. It's not working this time. What do YOU use?

There are no reliable cures for the cold/flu, even the medicine only masks the symptoms. I doubt any of the home remedies actually work.

If you trat it agressively with warm baths, pills and cold remedies, the cold/flu will be over in a week and a half, otherwise it will take 10 days.

Don Cherry's been talking about some cold remedy that he's taken over the last year because of cronic colds. Claims it works and says he's not getting paid to say it. can't recall the name. ColdAid or something like that.

Once you have a cold, the only thing that will help is sleep and liquids. Go see your Doctor if the symptoms are severe.

Try a spicy korean soup called 'yuk gae jang' available at most korean restaurants.

It's made from beef bones boiled for a few days. The liquids from the soup, nutrients from the beef broth will help with the cold. The spicy soup does wonders for clearing the sinuses.

Reminds me of an old Beverly Hilbillies episode.

Mr. Drysdale is down with a cold and gets all excited when Uncle Jed tells him Granny has a tonic that cures the common cold.

While taking the foul brew he gets all excited about the financial rewards of bringing such a discovery to market.

About five days into his sniffling ordeal, doubly horrible due to the possum skin extract etc he wonders why he's still sick.

Uncle Jed replies " Weeeeeeeeeelllllllll doggie! It takes a good ten to fourteen days for it to work its magic! Sure'nuff you'll be better in another week of her doctorin'
ok i admit it. It wasnt my grandma i was talking about, It was Granny from BHB's OK there i admit it

I usually use some nice rosehip tea (which contains antioxidants that help flush the system) put in a bit of honey to soothe the sore throat, and snuggle up in my bed with a good....book....yeah....book. Also drinking cranbery juice is is good to help cleanse the system, if you like the taste.

So, take whatever decongestant and expectorant that works for you. A good strong dose of a sedating decongestant before bed will help with getting a good sleep.
The problem is that such treatments are either ineffective or they knock me on my ass and make ME ineffective.

This one hit hard and fast. It didn't give me time to apply the usual homeopathic treatments. That being said, I'm still using the Zicam (zinc). I'm currently on day 6 and it is starting to let up a bit.

Thanks to all who offered advice. :)
