Right, companies spend billions of dollars on commercials annually because nobody watches them.

I have to remind myself that I'm posting with other adults on this board sometimes.
"Worse, the actual number of people uninterested in ads is even higher. Among the 34% that say the usually do watch TV ads, 28% say they typically watch on mute which implies that 76% of people are not actively watching TV ads"

mandrill you're being childish.

Social scientists have studied advertising on a number of subjects including gender portrayals (e.g. how women were portrayed in ads in the past compared to the present). Hollywood has been the center of debate over ethnic representation for years. People pay attention to these things. And for good reasons.

Suddenly you find a problem with this kind of inquiry because you want to ignore who is being portrayed negatively today.

What does this have to do with anything?

Ads work, that's why billions are spent on them.

I've never know anyone that's "actively" watched ads. Who the hell turns on their TV excited to watch ads?

It shows you that the majority dont care for ads. So you are in the extreme fringe minority to watch these ads and then count how many non whites you see, to try use that to make a point that white people are being vilified. Its nonsensical.

Also I am trying to remember the last time I bought something because of an ad.

You don't understand how advertising works and you lack self-awareness. That much is clear.

Perhaps it's trivial when taken independent of all else. A lot of science and data is. But when you aggregate it, it paints a completely different picture.

I think this bothers you quite a bit because it reveals patterns in mass media that you wish you could deny. Hence the reason you want to downplay it and ostracize whoever it is taking notes.
Yeah when I look how all the companies are woking their ads it's hilarious.

Now if they would have done that 5 years ago or even 10 that would have been impressive.

They're just following the script at present. They throw in a few transgender peeps to top it off.

I do feel good for the actors though. They wouldn't have got a look in yesteryear.

A family member of mine had a GF who was an astonishingly good actress. She's in her mid 50s now. Has a leading role on a popular TV series. She's hit the big time. But she couldn't score a role to save her soul in the late nineties and on to around 2007 or so. Being a woman of colour wasn't working. She'd get the audition because they had to audition different races but that was it. Now plays were a different story. She was always working there. Honing her craft. The theatre crowd were always more liberal. More accepting. She got really bitter there for a while. I used to remind her of Esther Rolle. Florida Evans from Good Times. She was 53 when she finally made it. Believe in your dreams....

So your complaint is that things are unfortunately not as racist as they used to be? :ROFLMAO:

Only during the Superbowl.

Advertising plays a huge role in shaping culture. People will try and be what they see on TV.

Another factor in the increased visibility of minorities in advertising is that there is also a larger target market.

Having worked in advertising for many years, it was a fun and wacky work environment. There were also lots of after hours parties and clients with large expense accounts.

I'm too old to have my purchasing habits be swayed by advertising, so there are no network television shows that interest me anymore.

@Ref: Are you familiar with Avion Films, a now-defunct Toronto advertising agency? I have a large collection of their TV ads and short films, with several on My YouTube Channel:

Back in the day, when many people still had 56K dialup Internet, any streaming video watched was also downloaded to a hidden folder named Temporary Internet Files, because it often took up to 45 minutes for a small low resolution video to fully load. If you wanted to watch it again, the saved copy in Temporary Internet Files was opened. You couldn't open those files directly, but you could cut or copy/ paste them to a permanent folder. I watched the Avion Films directors' reels, then saved the stored .mov video files. This also applied to YouTube at the time, (c 2008-2010); those were stored as .flv video. The feature was removed from Internet Explorer after IE5.

Avion Films commercials on my YouTube Channel:

Nintendo - The Endangered Pinata
Cineplex Odeon - Action Champion Fighter
Coca Cola - The Anthem Singer
Burger King Tender Crisp Chicken - Mayo
Budweiser - The Magic Bottle
Bud Light - History of the Bud Lite Institute
Bud Light - The Ultimate Soft Rock Compilation

Short Films:

The Deal Breaker
Truth in Advertising
The Reel Truth

Check them out, if you are so inclined.

''Because although certain segments of our society refuse to believe this. Even as evidence continues to mount before our very eyes. On one side of the political aisle, people of colour actually have greater power than white people. That's the truth that's not being acknowledged by the people who need to hear it. Because this gets in the way of them wielding that power the way that they want''

This statement by the young man here is going to ruffle a few feathers on here...
Let's think about this...

Who are the World leaders over here?

Who are the captains of industry?

Who are the bankers?

Who controls the central banks?

Who are the executives at the credit card companies?

The Wall Street moguls?

It's because the world moved further away from the Sun in the Future and therefore humans evolved to be melanin-reduced to maximize Vitamin D production.

Just like Cheddar Man's descendants became lighter-skinned over time.
Logan's Run is set 2 to 3 hundred years in the future. So you're saying asians and blacks will all become white in that time because of the sun.
