why waste a spot on Walcott? Kid hasn't made that many appearances since joining Arsenal. Darren Bent had a great year, he should have been named!

By having all those midfielders, are they going with a 4-5-1?
Time will tell if the Walcott selection was a waste. I like the idea of 4-5-1 with a thought to giving lots of freedom to Lampard, Cole and Gerrard to go forward. I am not sure if he was ever seriously considered, but if they are going to play a lone striker, I would have preferred Marlon Harewood to Crouch.

I'll bend it like........
I don't get it?

Sven is depending on Rooney (broken foot), Owen (Recovering foot), Couch (No foot) and Walcott(no Premier League foot)? How does he make the decision to pick these 4 strikers? Bent put 18 in this year. His playing well, why not give him a shot?

I have the feeling Sven feels like he has nothing to lose since this will be his last team. I've heard some good things about Walcott, but since he's never played a Premier match, so he could also be a bust.

Come on England?:(

Becks: while I agree with your thoughts on the striker selection,
we really have to count on namely yourself, Lampard, Gerrard and Cole
to prove the leadership in the absence of Wayne or else we go nowhere.
Since McClaren with take your Captaincy away after, and surley this is your
last WC? Why not go out with a "bang". And when taking Penalites in
this Tournament please concentrate on the goal and not shooting the ball to
the Moon.. "C,MON ON ENGLAND"!!!

yeah, I think so too. The job's lost, so this is no gamble. If the kid puts in a good performance, Sven looks like a mastermind, if he does nothing, no skin off his nose.

Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole

With a midfield like that it's not hard to figure out why Fillipe Scolari refused to become the future coach of England.

Let's suppose that the market gets it's way and we have an England - Brazil Final, here's how the midfields stack up:

Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole
Ronaldinho, Motta, Emerson, Kaka

Btw, what's become of Nicky Butt? England would NOT have beaten Argentina in 2002 without him.

If there's anything to commend about the English, it's their consitency.

James Sharman was at it again. On Monday he suggested that the Palermo Football Club are a team of homos for wearing pink jerseys. The man does lie to live dangerously...he must not know where Palermo is?

Sportsnet ran a story on Harry Kewell, and hailed him as the "guiding light" in the revival of Australian football. I confess ignorance, I don't know who Harry Kewel is, but I did watch the Australia - Uruguay match on Fox Sportsworld. It was Vincenzo Grella disrupting the Uruguayan midfield and the dangerous partnership of Mark Viduka and Marc Bresciano the got the Aussies to Germany.

did Sharman actually say that about Palermo?? Juve also has a third jersey that is pink, it goes back to the olden days when the cheapest fabric to buy for some reason was pink, and that how these teams ended up with pink tops

as for Harry Kewell, ahhh the man plays for the great team from Merseyside that plays in red aka Liverpool

He didn't actually say that Palermo were gay, he just referenced the pink jerseys in a manner that suggested the team has gone Brokeback Mountain. There's nothing wrong with a pink jersey - John Charles donned one.

Sharman did say that the reason Clarence Seedorf was left off the Dutch National team is that he's a moron?!?! I wonder how he arrived at that conclusion. From some of the decisions Marco Van Basten and Jurgen Klinsmann have made it appears that they are cancelling each other out.

Sharman, Camoranazi once more, better watch himself, he's becoming another Dale Barnes. Barnes did the European Soccer report for CFMT in the early 80's. However his butchering of names and his hatred of Germans worked against him. During Spain 82 he was doing his broadcasts with a rather large shiner.

More bad news for England.

If it wasn't for bad luck we would have no luck at all...reminds me of 2002 and the rush to get Beckham back..and we all remember what happened.
I say screw it and give the youngster wallcott a shot to make a name for himself.

well with Gerrard's play in the FA cup final you could have the midfield patrolled by Cole, Beckham and Lampard and give him free reign almost like a backup striker, it could work with the absence of Rooney and Owen
