Ryan Miller is the white Grant Fuhr.
Make no mistake about it, Ryan Miller the Buffalo goalie deserved all the credit in the world for winning game 2. :) True to its billing, the Senators came out swinging offensively and tighten up defensively. The Sabres were busy most of the time killing off penalties and playing defense after the two goal lead. Losing Connolly certainly limited the Sabres offensive output. The confident young Sabres came to Ottawa as underdogs to face the formidable Senators and came away with two big wins. Can the stunned but highly paid powerful Senators win the best of seven series?

Well, not if history is any reliable indicator. http://today.reuters.com/news/newsA...6Z_01_N08235728_RTRUKOC_0_US-NHL-SENATORS.xml
Not if Ryan Miller has gotten into the Senators’ collective head that he will stonewall them. Not if the young Sabres had learned their lessons from games 3 and 4 in round one against the Flyers. Unlike the big bad Flyers, the chocking Senators are too dangerous to let them hang around. Look for the Sabres to go all out in games three and four to attempt the sweep when home field advantage is on their side. Lindy Ruff will be lying to you if he said he does not want his young charges to exercise their killing instincts right there, right then.

The Sabres, with the Devils are the two teams in the Eastern Conference to peak at the right time for the playoffs. The Sabres won back to back shut outs with a convincing 4-0 win against the Hurricanes tonight. The Sabres will play the Flyers for the first round starting this Saturady and should be able to defeat the Flyers and go into the next round. The way things go, it may very well be the Sabres against the Devils in the Conference Final. The Devils are a formidable team as of now but the good doc will take the fearless Sabres to win the Conference title if they hit all the cylinders in full stride. If so, the Sabres can beat any team in the Western Conference and shall take the Stanley Cup home this time around.
looking like a good prediction so far

Watch Out, Mighty Senators!!! Expect The Sabres To Play Their A Game At Home!!!

The Senators may think that they were robbed by the Sabres in the first two games in Ottawa. Luck might be on the Sabres’ side but it takes a good team to materialize the opportunities into wins. ;) The Sabres did it with enough offense in game one. In game two, there were solid defense and spectacular goaltending which saved the day. The Sabres, although outplayed by the Senators majority of the time, hung on with dogged determination and never backed down.

The baffled but potent Senators, seeing that they need to rally in enemy territories, said they “believe” in themselves that they can go to Sabres’ home turf and win. So expect the desperate Senators to throw everything except the kitchen sink at the Sabres in the attempt to win. Otherwise, feeding on the energy from the fans at home, expect the Sabres to click on all cylinders in offense, defense, special team, and goaltending. This is a pivotal game for both teams. If the Senators won, they may be able to turn this series into a long one. If the Sabres won, they will be poised to sweep the Senators on Thursday.

So far the fearless Sabres have been able to master the intangibles to win. Expect them to play their A game today against the ferocious Senators. ''I don't think they've seen our best yet,'' warned goaltender Ryan Miller. He is not lying. Here is the truth: the Sabres won two games from the extremely talented Senators even when they were not clicking on all cylinders. Life will not be easy for the mighty Senators when the Sabres hit all the cylinders in full stride!!! With the young Sabres, the force is strong indeed!!!

Game three between the young Sabres and the powerful Senators was a nail biter. It was a close scoring game. The Sabres gave the mighty Senators so many power play chances. In the end Ottawa could not get the job done in OT. The Sabres won in OT with a score of 3-2. This time the mighty Senators cannot say they were the better team and lost. The Sabres has mortally wounded the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Game four is the Senators only chance to survive this series, shall we see what they are made of?

Sabre Smiles...

Swords is gleaming with glee over the "28th place" Sabres and their playoff run. Yup, some pundits had the Sabres at the pile's bottom when the season began.

I can see the Toronto Skyline from my pearch across Lake Ontario and Lord Stanley's Cup is glistening in Buffalo's eyes. The Cup was here once last week in a Dress Rehearsal -- next visit will be for real !! :D

Emery Save Senators From Being Swept

Give Emery a lot of credit. He is the reason tonight that the Senators is still alive in the series. He outperformed Ryan Miller this time. There is a reason that all these games are won by one goal each time. Both teams prove that they can win in the opponent's building. The plot again thickens.... The Sabres could not finish the Senators in their own HSBC arena. Can they do it in the powerful Senator's home turf come Saturday? The Sabres were too sloppy at times and gave the mighty Senators too many chances. Lindy Ruff should tell his young Sabres to play like there is no tomorrow in the next game and take care of the Senators for good. Letting the powerful Senators to hang around too long is a dangerous proposition, even though the likelihood that the Ottawa can come back to win three more games is very slim.

The Sens are OK for the moment. Down 0-3, they figure they've bottomed out and they feel alot less pressure. Hence, they looked more like the regular season Senators and managed to win despite the fact that for the last two periods, the Sabers played more like the team that whupped Philly than in any of the games they won.

Trouble is when it gets to 3-2 or 3-3 and some expectations start to creep in, the Sens will probably choke again. This is now officially a terminal condition for this franchise. It could not be solved by tweaking the core (Heatly for Hossa). These players just can't do it on the same team.

As for Buffalo, I think it will do them good. I was worried about them getting away from their style and spending the last 50 minutes of every game sitting on a lead.

Game four in Round two was a test of what the Senators are made of. Interestingly enough, now game five is a test of what the Sabres are made of. For the remainder of this series, the powerful Senators will need to play with the same attitude, namely with their back against the wall. So it is up to the Sabres now to see if they can get the job done sooner or later. Obviously, the sooner the better as indeed the mighty Senators are a very dangerous team. The longer they hang around, the more damage they can cause. So the good doc will advise the young Sabres to play the entire game five just like they did in period two of game four. Play with great determination and unshakable conviction, take it to the mighty Senators non-stop, revive their scoring touch and solve Emery with shots on goal in all directions.

The young Sabres need to exercise their killer instincts and get the job done as early as possible. Letting the Senators hang around for too long is a dangerous proposition. Young Sabres, it is time to step up and play fearless hockey again. It is time to believe in you as a team again and show us what you are made of. May ‘the force’ be with you! Go Sabres!!! :)

It was a beautiful short-handed goal by Jason Pominville in OT at game 5 that suddenly ended the powerful Senator's playoff life in this series 4 games to 1. Despite losing two important players in Connolly and Kalinan, the young Sabres won as a team. The Cinderella story goes on. It was a fantastic series. The good doc believes we should give the Senators more credit than it appears. These were all very close, tight one goal games. The Senators are indeed a superior team. Four games to one could have easily been 3-2 or 2-3 with the Sabres at the short end of the stick. May be the hockey gods are looking after the Sabres??? 'The force' is strong indeed with the never quit, fearless Sabres!!!

The Sens deserve no credit..they choked...three losses on your home ice???.... totally unforgiveable...the Sens may be the best team in the NHL on paper and in the regular season when it doesn't matter, but this team has no real heart. Alfreeddson is not a leader...he cannot get this incredibly talented team anywhere..just check out their playoff record over the last 9 yrs..and I think Alfreddson has bee there for most of it... couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of chokers.. ROFLMAO !!!.......so much for you Ottawa fans blowing smoke about how this was your year...and enough from you Ottawa fans piling on the Leafs..Ottawa's playoff failures put them in a loser's class all by themselves..and the way they lost tonights game??...absolutely priceless...

Hahahaha....So the good doc is being too nice to the mighty Senators??? LOL!!! I do not dislike any hockey team. It is just that they cannot stand in the Sabres' way this season. ;) It is the Sabres' moment in the sun and no team is going to take that away. Imagine the powerful Senators grasping the art of 'the force' like the Sabres did? They will be invincible then. Well, may be next season the good doc will tell them how. LOL!!!

powerful????

Hmmmm... I really don't think the adjective 'powerful' can any longer be used in the same sentence with 'Senators'. Let's see... do the math:

Was it one or both of the Senators' goals that were scored on a 5 on 3 matchup??? Oh yeah, one was just on a simple power play.

Was the OT winner by the Sabres short-handed??? Uh-huh.

Was the Sabres best player -- Connolly -- MIA from almost the entire series???

Didn't the Sabres take 3 of the 4 wins IN OTTAWA???

Hmmm...

Methinks powerful now belongs to the Sabres !!! :D

LOL!!! Perhaps we should think about different senses of ‘powerful’. The Senators are arguably the most talented NHL team this season with dominating offensive and defensive players. So it is only fitting to call them ‘powerful’ or mighty. Many will agree that before and when the playoff began, they were favored to win the Stanley Cup. Obviously with such a huge expectation came a huge disappointment when they came up short. Make no mistakes about the games, the Sabres were under the gun from the powerful Senators the majority of the games in the series. The Sabres countered with great team work, rock solid goaltending, and most important of all, they were more masterful in grasping the intangibles, which I summarily called ‘the force’. They won by out-determining, out-lasting, out-willing, and out-hustling the mighty Senators. In the final analysis, the collective heart of a never quit, fearless young team was too much for the mighty Senators to handle. If you call that particular attribute of the Sabres powerful, so be it. Those who master ‘the force’ certainly are powerful indeed. :)

In the Eastern Conference final due to begin this coming Saturday, the Sabres are quite evenly matched with the Hurricanes. The good doc thinks which ever team can perform with better team work, rock solid goaltending, and mastery of the intangibles will win the series. I like the fearless young Sabres’ chances. May ‘the force’ be with them!!! Go Sabres!!!

Let's GO Buffalo !!! :D

The Sabres seemed rusty coming out from almost one week's inactivity. In the first period, they gave up a goal to Carolina via a giveaway which should not have happened. They dominated the second period. The third period was about even except the last two minutes when the Hurricanes were desperately trying to tie the game. In the end, goalie Ryan Miller saved the day and Sabres won the game on the road by the scores of 3 to 2.

One wonders if this game represents the best effort from the Hurricanes when the Sabres did not play that good. What happens if the Sabres were to hit all the cylinders in full stride in the coming games? Now the Sabres gain their home ice advantage by winning game one, it is time to let it all hang out, take the game to the Hurricanes. Fearless young Sabres, lets see you play some beautiful, exciting top of the line Sabres hockey and win game 2 on the road as well.

out on a limb...

It's Spring so I've got a rather delicate limb I'm gonna walk out on...

MVP for the 'Canes series:

can you say: it's MILLER time !!

At least in Game 1 he was (I hate using this overused word) awesome. That second goal only got by him because it was a Charlie Huff knuckle ball!

God I love watching these guys play hockey.

What say you to an Edmonton - Buffalo finals ?? :D
