It's probably because he was an ordinary schmoe who had big dreams for his kids...I mean the effort he has to do to provide for his family and still be able to manage to focus on their activities...that's hard to do now...I always wonder how was life as a parent in the 80's...Never really understood why he was so famous.

It is mainly about relationships. Wayne has always been a vocal supporter of his father and Walter seemed to enjoy (not bask) in the limelight. He came across as sincere and genuine and those who knew him personally were in agreement.Never really understood why he was so famous.
