Denseman, it was to preserve masks for the front line workers because it's more important for the doctors /nurses treating the virus than the general public who would have hoarded masks as they did toilet paper.
You are correct. However the amount that the oxygen is reduced by is an insignificant amount. It will affect none but those people with the most severe respiratory problems. I was in a Bruno's market today and a couple of punks were riffing through the fresh buns bins with no mask. Then some guy, maybe about 70 and had the look of an ex-biker or trucker, starts asking them, "Where's your mask?" No reply and then again, but louder this time asking about the mask. The punk starts mouthing off and then tells the old guy to fuck off. He aIso swore at some staff. I told a manager and they escorted the pair out. I then hear a couple of staff talking about how the punks work at a nearby store. Five minutes later, the owner of that nearby store comes in, accompanied by the Bruno's manager and apologizes to the old guy and says that he "took care" of the punks.
So, yeah. People DO give a fuck. Inconsiderate idiots are the ones who don't give a fuck.
So how do surgeons, who are under tremendous stress while performing intricate surgery that has zero error tolerance manage to perform operations hours and hours long all while wearing a mask and you have trouble getting to an appointment? Hmmm.
The mask is designed to be worn in a sterile environment.So it wont plug up. With normal air,especially outside on a street like Young,people wearing a mask are filtering car exhaust,etc. The mask will start to plug up .Result is less air.Your body doesn't like that.Surgical theater is sterile,steady flow of air.
