I found it very interesting yesterday as I watched a Barney Miller episode on DVD last night.
One case dealt with a woman who came in to lodge a complaint of her husband beating her enough that she had a shiner and some bruises. Amazingly, the guys in the precinct were shrugging it off to the heat wave going on and telling her she should just go home. Some, if not most of the comments, would have the show run off the air nowadays. Even Fish had a line like "Now there's a marriage that works".
Shows you how much things have changed (in N. America at least) in the last 30 something years.
BTW, the lady left in tears, reminiscing about their good times but at the very end she returned and signed the official complaint.
