Vegas makes a lot of sense, almost a sure bet (pun intended). Toronto is looking more likely to be the second Hub city as Ford is likely to wave the 14-day quarantine rules for NHL players. Toronto getting to be an NHL hub city will certainly piss off Jason (cry baby) Kenney from Alberta.

I agree with all your points. Also, when picking between Toronto and Edmonton, there may be some influence (aka heavy lobbying) by Rogers for Toronto, as they own part of arena (which would put some $$ in their coffers) and most of the broadcasting will likely originate from Toronto which would give them proximity for socailly distanced interviews with the players as the playoffs continued.

Completely sarcastic comment: In probably the craziest NHL season of our lifetime, they should bring back Grapes to provide commentary. At least it would create a whole lot of buzz. Even negative publicity is publicity!

Be better for the Leaf players if Edmonton is selected instead of Toronto. The league will not allow a home team to play in their own rink. So if Toronto and Vegas gets picked the Leafs will have to play in Vegas and vice versa. I think the players would rather be in Edmonton rather than Vegas.

Saxon I think Toronto will try to get the Eastern conference to play in Toronto. Personally I think the players would rather stay in Vegas for 2 months then Edmonton. Bt from a health perspective Edmonton is a better choice.

The issue with that is the league has already stated that they don’t want a home team playing in their own rink. It’s an unfair advantage.

Have you actually seen a league-issued statement to this effect? It was speculated that the league was leaning this way but more recently I've read that the East would play in Toronto and that the West would play in Vegas, if they are the two cities chosen. The significance of a home ice advantage is debatable without a crowd in the stands.

Plus the “home” team can officially be the visitor. We see this is international hockey or in tournaments all the time.

Would have preferred it elsewhere... let a city outside of Ontario deal with the possible spread. Bringing in many young irresponsible players is certainly a spread risk.

Absolutely ridiculous. Bringing in many young irresponsible players who will spread Covid within Canada.
Dude, our border isn't sealed proof, that are many people flying into our country and not following our quarantine rules. So WTF! A group of Americans crossed our border to go to Alaska only to party in Banff and there are many more than just them.

I edited my response while you were apparently responding.

I lightened the ridiculous to preferred it elsewhere.

That being said not sure what your point is.

My point is there are tourists in our city not following our quarantine rules. May as well allow NHL players to conduct business in our city.

not always sure...
There is a bit of an economic incentive for the cities. Hotels and restaurants get some business from the players.
It's July 1st, so Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is paying out $58.5 Million in "bonus" payments to Maple Leaf players today, which is fully 1/5th of the total bonus payments in the entire league. A handful of players are getting their entire years salary as a 'bonus' today.

They need Scotiabank arena used as a hub because they need the revenue, and they were twisting arms to get it.

The league was working hard with the Toronto bidding committee to ensure it would be accepted, so good on them I guess.

You'll notice the league hasn't made an announcement yet though. Without an agreement with the players the NHL doesn't want to make a commitment that would start money flowing.

What revenues will Scotiabank Arena be getting?

Not their entire year's salary, that would be contrary to the C.B.A.
