Reports were that a white van mounted the curb, drove down the sidewalk at southbound Yonge, south of Finch, and struck eight to 10 people possibly, the numbers aren’t confirmed yet,” Toronto police spokesperson Gary Long told Global News.

Subway and traffic is a mess. Young between Finch and Sheppard


White Ryder Rental Van. Driver was seen being put into a cop car. Huge damage on the van. Witness reports coming into CP 24. One witness says driver didn't seem to care what he hit in his path. Says man taken into custody look like a normal guy. Believed to be white. Non confirmed at the moment.

EMS bus is on scene due to multiple injuries.

North York paramedics on scene helping Toronto paramedics. 8 ambulances have gone to Sunnybrooke

Police report they do indeed have driver and van in custody

Some witness say terrorism. Some say maybe health or vehicle issue.

Second Witness says driver looked wide-eyed and angry. Says middle eastern man.

Witness say the van didn't stop after hitting people, kept going. Possibly 2 dead and many wounded. The van is a rental. Witness, blood all over the place , guy was lying there with his legs mushed.

5 Dead. Obviously a deliberate act. Very disturbing since anyone who wants to kill a bunch of people can do it with ease. RIP

Holy shit, I just came from close to that area (Don Mills & Finch). Heard it on the radio, they interrupted a song on an FM station for it which rarely happens.

I wonder what the motive was

I think it might have been an attempted suicide-by-cop after the fact, which failed.

Good thing they caught him alive

If I was that cop, I think I'd stay behind the cruiser until the perp dropped whatever he was holding. Which someone said was a cell phone.

No excuses, he doesn't look like the typical hairy, bearded guy. Seems well dressed. If anything he could be a Iranian as they're more white than Arabs. A terrorist or a schizofrenic. Since the van was rented sounds more like something terrorists would do, we'll find out soon enough.
