Everything being reported on this guy points to mental health issues as opposed to any ideological reason. Unconfirmed reports indicate that he was on the spectrum, socially awkward and a loner. Confirmed reports that he identified with the California shooter from 2014 who blamed society for his being an "involuntary celibate". Confirmed by Sajjan that this guy tried to join our Armed Forces but withdrew after a few weeks of training. So sounds like a lifetime of not fitting in, being socially awkward, with no close friends. A former classmate speculated that maybe he got into an accident or minor road incident and just flipped out. The key will be why he rented a van. If there was some legitimate reason (eg - he needed to move something or was on his way to pick up something). If there was no reason to rent the van - then that points to some pre-planning.

A weird personal coincidence - I was visiting a client at 5650 Yonge earlier yesterday morning. Fastest from downtown is by subway and I was already back in my office when I saw the news reports so fortunately missed it by a few hours. A lot of people at this client were out and about at lunch because of the nice weather - but nobody was hurt, as far as I know. Just a terrible tragedy....
Nothing you posted about is mental health related at all. Sometimes people just commit disgusting heinous crimes. They aren't suffering from mental illness. They're just selfish losers.

It is very likely that Adolph Hitler was mentally ill. Suicide
was the right path for him for he would not have had access to
expertise of psychiatrists today to correctly diagnose his illness.

Waiting for Faith Goldy to say Minassian was part of the world-wide Jewish-Zionist Conspiracy.
Goldy raced to the scene to give live coverage of the attack, intimating from the beginning that the driver was "Middle Eastern", even asking Tory to confirm that the driver was Middle Eastern. Lot's of pics of her in her baseball cap with her glamor sunglasses. Then the story simply disappeared and now she's back to her usual rants. I think she was very disappointed that this was not a Middle Eastern terrorist attack, hence her moving on... nothing to see here attitude. Goldy always denies being a white supremacist - but I have friends with daughters who went to school with Goldy and their memories of Goldy are not favourable. Upper middle class background, Havergal, Western.... yet she has always had views more aligned with the trailer park neo-nazis she was cheering in Charlottesville than most Canadians. You have to wonder how somebody growing up in a privileged Toronto background formed such views...

Very odd. Although Western is where the dumber private school kids go to party. If it was the Havergal / Queens or U of T route, I would guess almost certainly moderate left views to go with the lawyer / civil servant / university professor career.

It says a lot if a Havergal grad was unable to get into Queens or U of T.

Ontario government to investigate jail leak about accused van attacker Alek Minassian

Investigation was triggered by Toronto Sun article, photo of inmate inside Toronto jail

The Canadian Press · Posted: Apr 28, 2018 7:05 AM ET

The Ontario government has launched an investigation into a leak from a Toronto jail related to a man accused of killing 10 people and injuring 16 others in a van attack earlier this week.

The investigation was triggered by a Toronto Sun article about accused mass killer Alek Minassian that is accompanied by a photograph of an inmate the newspaper claims is that of the 25-year-old inside the Toronto South Detention Centre.

Joe Warmington's report cites anonymous sources who either spoke to or heard Minassian allegedly say inside the detention centre that he had no regrets for the victims and that he wished he had been shot by the Toronto police officer who arrested him without incident.

"Joe reported information he received from his sources but we haven't been contacted and there's nothing we can add in terms of the ministry's actions or policies," James Wallace, editorial vice president for the Sun newspapers, said in an email.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services says publicly sharing photos or information about an inmate is unacceptable conduct.

"It is not appropriate for the ministry to publicly comment on any individuals in its custody," Andrew Morrison said in an email.

"For security reasons, it is not appropriate for anyone in the ministry to publicly disclose specific locations of inmates."

Morrison said all correctional staff must abide by a code of conduct.

Leak could jeopardize right to fair trial
Monte Vieselmeyer, chair of corrections division for Ontario Public Service Employees Union, which represents correctional workers across the province, said he does not condone correctional staff sharing information about inmates.

"I've been in the ministry for 27 years and we do take an oath upon being hired into the ministry and I have concerns that images would be leaked or information because that's not within our mandate," Vieselmeyer said.

But he noted that it was possible the information and photo was leaked by someone other than a union member.

Daniel Brown, a criminal defence lawyer, said the leak could play a role at a trial.

"This type of information could significantly prejudice an accused person's fair trial rights and it may undermine his evidence at trial," Brown said.

However, a media expert pointed out that report had news value.

"I can understand why there is a compelling journalistic reason to tell this story because we're in the sense-making stage of this — what would compel somebody to do something like this?" said Lisa Taylor, a journalismprofessor at Ryerson University.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/toronto-attack-eight-women-among-10-killed-police-192800089.html

Eight of the 10 people killed in the Toronto van attack on Monday were women, police have confirmed.

Inspector Bryan Bott has released the names of the victims who died when Alek Minassian mowed down pedestrians on a busy central street.

Toronto police announced those killed were "predominately" female after reports suggested the attacker had a grudge against women.

Minassian appears to have belonged to the "Incel" movement , which represents men who blame women for their inability to have sex or form relationships.

Incels have been described as extremely misogynistic.

They meet on anonymous message boards like 4chan and incels.me to vent their frustrations about perceived injustices served on men by women.

Moments before mowing down eight innocent women and two men on a busy Toronto street, Minassian wrote on Facebook: "The Incel Rebellion has already begun! We will overthrow all the Chads and Stacys! All hail the Supreme Gentleman Elliot Rodger!"

Elliot Rodger was a college dropout who shot six people dead on the University of California campus in Santa Barbara in 2014.

The day before the killing spree he had uploaded a video to the internet complaining about the perceived treatment he received from women.

Toronto police revealed the 10 people who died on Monday were aged between 22 and 94.

Beutis Renuka Amarasingha, 45, Geraldine Brady, 83, So He Chung, 22 and Anne Marie D'Amico, 30, all from Toronto, were among the women killed.

Mary Forsyth, 94, Ji Hun Kim, 22, and Dorothy Sewell, 80, also from Toronto were also killed.

The eighth woman Andrea Bradden, 33, was from Woodbridge in Ontario.

Munir Najjar, an 85-year-old Jordanian man visiting Toronto was also killed, along with Chul Min Kang, 45.

Seems like this asshole really was aiming to kill predominantly women!
