In tools , you can click " clear history " You can also delete cookies in temporary files and all viewed temporary files. In the address bar, highlite the selected address and click delete
I would strongly advise downloading a different browser to use for your extracurricular activities. I use Opera for Terb and when I'm done I just hit Tools and Delete Private Data.

By using a different browser you avoid having a suspiciously empty history and temp directory. A sure sign that something's going on. If the SO snoops into my Internet Explorer everything looks like Sunday school and there's no sign that I'm trying to hide something.

Good advice ... I use Netscape 8.1 ..... you can set it to clear your tracks automatically when shutting it down .... when the SO tries sneaking up on me to see what I'm doing all I do is close the browser and all tracks are gone. No need to do anything extra ........

CleanUp utilility and other tips

These are all good suggestions for manually clearing you Internet Explorer cache, history, cookies, etc. However, it takes several steps to clear everything, making it a good possibility you`ll miss something.

For a utility that can do a cleanup with one mouse click, and some other tips, see my posting on Computer Privacy at:Or search this forum for "CleanUp". BTW, I have no connection whatsoever to the author of the CleanUp! utility, and there are others out there probably just as good.

If you are running Google Desktop, it may be caching every page you visit, so you should read the above article! If anyone is interested, I can post more details on how to disable the dangerous features. (Unfortunately, you have to reconfigure every time you install a Google Desktop update.)

One more thing ... since it is almost impossible to erase all your tracks, you`re safest strategy is to have your own laptop.

Ok. On the computer I am using, if I delete the URL it goes away but not permanently. If you click on the arrow button at the end of the address bar, the URL reappears! I can only get rid of it if I clear history. So Gents don't rely on the delete function to clear the recorded history in the address bar!

Now to get rid of the history of searches you have done in the google bar, go to TOOLS-INTERNET-CONTENT and disable the AutoComplete function. Seems to work.

Hope this helps.

Or just download Firefox. Better, safer browser, and you can set it to clear all your history etc every time you close the browser, and/or every time you hit a certain key combination.

Axiomatic is right. I switched to Firefox as a browser several months ago and will never use Internet Explorer again. It isn't full of holes like IE, it dumps everything (cache/history) when you close it and now when I run Spybot or Ad-Aware, I rarely, if ever find any spyware. You can easily disable JavaScript and then selectively activate it from the taskbar at the bottom should you find you need it for a particular site. Much safer surfing.
