Its hard to believe that WE might be the ONLY lintelligent life forms in the Universe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....If the universe is estimated to be 20 BILLION years old, surely there are intelligent life forms that could be a million years more advanced than ours, who's technology enables them to travel great distances if not thru time.

Here's a scary thought: Maybe we're the most advanced creatures in the universe.

I doubt it. There are older solar systems than ours that are 'life-capable'.

I have my doubts that we'd be seeing any life forms from such places. No matter how technically advanced such other critters might be, I don't see how they could alter fundamental physical laws of time and space. They might find complicated addenda to our understandings of such but if we are mostly correct in our theories, how could they get here in any reasonable amount of time?

Count me a skeptic.

I have a similar stance on this as IG.

I'm always reminded of that line from Contact which (I suppose) is loosely based on this:

Whose to say that we are the only ones?

But the technology we know of today doesn't allow us to explore any of those places so perhaps it only exists in science fiction.

If we are the only ones- it seems like an awful waste of space.

I agree. Speed of light restrictions make it highly improbable that a society that would want to contact us, could. As these socities evolve, pehaps the ones that could visit us wouldn't be interested. Whatever for?

We are not close to understanding the fundamental laws of physics, if we were we would not have spent 9 billion on the LHC.

There's a conspiracy theory that President Kennedy was going to reveal the truth that we've been visited by ETs and that contact was made. Supposedly he kissed and told with Marilyn Monroe who was going to make this announcement after he dumped her. Neither got the chance to talk about it, publicly.
