i wonder if BJ Penn even trained for this fight... he's horrible and had such a big mouth leading up to this fight.

can't believe he made it through the 4th... he's absolutely demolished.

correct that- Penn's corner stopped the fight.

He got his butt whipped!
What do you think is worse for his ego - getting knocked out/tapping out or having your corner stop the fight?

I'm a GSP fan but I never thought he would dominate Penn like he did. Every aspect of the fight was controlled by GSP. i'm beginning to think he could challenge Anderson Silva.

I wasn't impressed with any aspect of Penn tonight. As previously stated, looked like a guy showing up to collect a cheque.

Thiago Alves is next. Still, GSP has to be thinking "Anderson Silva... come on down!" THAT would be the fight of the century for MMA.

A good place to watch the fights is Philphy McNasty's on eglinton just east of yonge. Opnly bad thing about it is that it's too packed on UFC fight nights. The cover is only $5 bucks. Lots of hot young chicks there to.

That's where I was tonite. just got home from it and have to say I've lost all respect for BJ. He talked so much trash before this fight. He said he was gonna fight "to the death" and nothing less would do. when he said that I told myself he's full of it. Know why?

Because he has a fucking kid (daughter) that's why. Meaning he's fighting for a paycheck so he can FEED her. He's not fighting for himself. There's a big difference between fighting for a paycheck and fighting for survival. (to the death) A man with no family can talk that kind of trash and it would carry more weight cause he'd have nothing to lose but himself. Which means he has nothing to lose. He also was stupid to tell George's training manager Faraz to "Go fuck yourself" on that all access show.

Fuck you Penn. You got what you deserved.

Faraz was one of the guys jumping up and down with Georges in the octagon after the fight.

Isn't Alves the guy that got his ass knocked out tonite?

And you're damn right he has to fight Anderson Silva next. Damn straight!!!

"Top Jimmy" is a song from Van Halen's 1984 right? You quote the lyrics in your sig I see. Let's see how much you know through. What guitar technique is
Eddie using in the opening riff of the song?

I wanted Penn to win that fight but I knew that GSP was gonna be physically too strong for him.....Though I thought Penn would last the five rounds (and he might have if it wasn't for the corner stoppage)

All of you guys who said Penn didn't show up for a fight and just went to collect a paycheck don't what you're talking about...

What most of you guys don't understand is what a huge difference a weight class makes....Especially MMA weight classes.....
The jump between 155 and 170 is huge (technically there should be at least one weight class between the lightweight and welterweight)....

St Pierre may have weighed in at 170 but he probably entered the ring at around 190....Penn just got worn down by GSP's wrestling, strength and size....
It took a lot of energy/physical effort to stuff GSP's takedowns in the first round (Penn's takedown defense was impressive)..
.
Once a fighter's physically worn down then there's little he can do in mounting a decent offense or even a decent defense (especially after the grounding and pounding that GSP's gave BJ)

If Penn was there to collect a paycheck he would have quit by the third round (and most fighters would have including GSP - GSP did tap get knocked down by Serra)...Instead he showed a shitload of heart and kept on fighting til his corner stopped the fight after the doctor's recommendation....

Penn comes from a rich family...he doesn't have to fight to feed his daughter....he could have retired from fighting and still live comfortably for the rest of his life)

And if anyone knows BJ Penn....They know he likes to shit talk....Its just who he is....He likes to hype the fight and get himself hyped up for the fight....

There's no way that Anderson can come down to 170....He originally fought at 170 but now I really think its impossible for him to drop to Welterweight - The Spider walks around at about 210 or 220....

GSP would have to go up a weight class and fight at 185....And if they fought "The Spider" would crush St Pierre....

Thiago Alves will be a good fight for GSP....Should be a good one can't wait for it....

Manji - I agree with you about the difference the weight classes make. I have a question, though. As I understand it the weigh-in was the day before the fight - how could GSP put on 20 lbs in such a short time and not affect his performance?

Thiago Alves is 170 pound fighter who was briefly interviewed after the GSP/Penn fight....
