This will be the 61st installment of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. To take place tonight at 10pm in Las Vegas, Nevada to a sold out Mandalay Bay arena on Pay Per View. This bout has been labelled as one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Shamrock, known to many as one of the legends of mixed martial arts will take on his bitter rival Tito Ortiz in this grudge match that has been scheduled to go the distance of 3 five minute rounds. After these two were selected to coach the teams for the third season of The Ultimate Fighter, tension has been brewing for several months now. With intense training on both sides, it will be interesting to see how Shamrock changes his fight plan, after losing so miserably the last time these two fighters met. In my opinion, I think Tito will come out the winner again in the third round due to a referee stoppage. What do you guys think?

Although I'm not a big fan of Tito (actually, I can't stand him); I'll have to go with Ortiz.....

Refree Stoppage in the second round.....Tito will win by grounding and pounding Shamrock til the ref stops it due to the fact Shamrock will take too much damage or the fight will be stopped due to a cut opened up on Shamrock's face....

Have not seen Ortz fight for a while but I can't imagine Shamrock being a threat to Ortiz....Shamrock was something in the first few UFCs, now he's just over the hill......

Tito Ortiz is gonna win, after seeing last times fight. I didn;t like Ortiz before but after seeing him on the UFC show, he has more of a character then Shamerock.

The fight was stopped in the first round by the ref after Ortiz was giving Shamrock endless elbows to the head. In my opinion it was stopped away too early. The fight didn't even start and it was stopped. Total bullshit. That was a waste, considering there was so much hype and build up, I thought the ref would have let the fight go on a little bit longer. He jumped in way too early. This sucks!!!!!!!!! :(

I've noticed in recent UFC fights that the refs are jumping in and stopping it way too early. Christ, a guy takes 2 elbows or fists to the head the fight is over. Although I am not a big fan of Pride Fighting, I do like the fact that the refs at least give the fighters a chance of fighting themselves out of a precarious situation before jumping in. I agree with you Phnine, after all of the hype and anticipation it was a complete letdown.

That's why I don't go out of my way to watch UFC.....

Funny about Ken Shamrock.....

His fight against Sakuraba was stopped early by the ref....Maybe the event organizers are worried that Shamrock has taken one hit too many and don't want him dying in their event.....

Oh well....Either way he would have lost (against both Sakuraba and Tito).....he was just saved from getting an intense beating from Tito (and a painful submission from Sakuraba).....

From what I read on Sherdog, I guess the Sylvia/Arlovski fight was a let down......

How was the Yves Edwards/Joe Steveson fight?

Yeah the Sylvia/Arlovski fight was also a snoozefest because, they both stayed upright the whole fight. It might have well been a boxing match. UFC is known to be all about the action. The fights tonight lacked major action. It was too defensive. As I said, it was BORING!!!!!!

Yeah Pride is so much more action filled. UFC really needs to look at what they are doing and do a major change in their format or something. Otherwise they will start to lose the edge in being the most entertaining fights on television.

its all about the money right? like you mentioned all this hype and no show. Pride fighting is freaking awesome, especially when you see two contrasting sized fighters.

My buddy decided to have a UFC party and there was about 10 of us there and we all chipped in 5 bucks for the fight and food. Worse $5 I've ever spent. The Ortiz and Shamrock looked like it was going to be amazing. But when Shamrock started to take bones to the face the ref stopped it. By the way he jumped up, I think he could have taken more, but now we'll never know.

The Sylvia vs Arlovski fight? What fight? I feel asleep on my buddies couch. Hands down the most boring fight I've seen. I will never go out of my way to see a UFC fight again.

I will never go out of my way to see a UFC fight again.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but dude, in November, if things play out right and both get there injury free, the dreams of all MMA fans will finally come true. Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva !!! www.icemanmma.com

Never thought I'd say this but Dana White, THANK YOU !!!

It takes a fighter from Pride to make the UFC more exciting. What happened to Frank Mir? Guy's at least 20 lbs overweight. I know he had an accident but come on; do some cardio.
Can you imagine what Bob Sapp would do in UFC? He could take on Shamrock and Ortiz at the same time. BTW, I'm exagerating a little bit.

True. I didn't bother with the UFC last night as neither Ortiz, Shamrock, AA nor Sylvia interested me. The UFC HW division is pretty lame while the LHW division doesn't have the depth that Pride does. Still, Silva vs Chuck is something we've been talking about for years. If it were Pride rules (soccer kicks, stomps and knees to prevent take downs all allowed), I'd pick Silva hands down, however in the Octagon, I'm not sure.

Btw, Bob Sapp wouldn't get past the 'roid test to even fight in UFC.

I disagree

The ref did good in stopping the fight when he did. Ken was on his back with his hands above his head not defending himself and Ortiz with his elbows was dropping bombs on Ken's face.

Sure when the ref relieved the pressure and Ken stands up he looks like hes still ready to go but if the fight was left to continue Ken's face would have been turn to mush. Worse than the last time these to met.

I agree its unfortunate that it ended so short and in this manner but by the same token if your not defending yourself with the threat of serious injury the ref has to call it.
