I think Diaz should have to earn a title shot. Some might say Hendricks has earned a shot. Diaz vs. Hendricks in a #1 contender eliminator in early 2013? (since Hendricks' fight lasted all of 46 seconds) Also gives GSP time to rest and heal up and decide if he wants to go on the Silva suicide mission...
Great idea CF. I hope it happens but something tells me that Carlos will fight Hendricks nex.sux

Dana says superfight is on in May:D

Captain Fantastic - I'd be the first to admit, I don't mind in the least when not only when someone disagrees, but proves me wrong.
Stats show those fight closer then I recall them being. I just coin the term 'robbed' when I feel a fighter earned the win, yet the judges saw it different.

As for the Clay Guida, it was awhile ago. I think it was the one against Diego, but not sure. At the time of the fight, just felt Clay had won that night.
Cool. It's always a pleasure being able to discuss something and disagree, and yet still remain respectful. Did I do enough to at least prove to you that guys weren't robbed and the fix wasn't in? LOL!

Curious though, anyone know what is going on with Nick Diaz?
Ask and ye shall receive: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ufc-granted-permission-promote-alistair-100002437--mma.html
One other fighter that could be eligible to come back from suspension soon, as well, is Nick Diaz. He is currently serving a 12-month suspension for a second marijuana offense in Nevada.

There had been some chatter on Twitter recently that Diaz and Josh Koscheck agreeable to fighting each other on the UFC 156 fight card. The problem being, Diaz’s suspension runs through Feb. 4 before he is eligible to reapply for his license in Nevada.

So would the UFC be granted any sort of exception for Diaz to return?

“Nope,” White put it bluntly, although he didn't exactly say that they had even asked permission to promote Diaz, nor did he indicate they were working on a fight for him.

Diaz, of course, has had a much more contentious relationship with, well, just about everyone, but particularly with the Nevada Athletic Commission. His licensure may not be as cut and dry as Overeem’s is likely to be, plus, UFC 156 falls on Feb. 2, two full days before the duration of Diaz’s suspension, making it a much different scenario.

I would much rather see a JJ vs Silva match as that is a tough one to call.

I think a GSP vs Silva is a fight that favours Silva heavily as he is able to do the jab tactic that GSP employs but with longer reach and much higher finishing power/sub skills.

There's very little that GSP has an advantage over Silva.

BTW LOVE Clay Guida..... long from being relevant but man any card he is on he has the chance of being fight of the night.

+1

What a sight that ball of hair jumping all around must be to an opponent..lol. Shame he is in such a tough division with the likes of Edgar and Benson Henderson. My favorite @ 155 has to be Gray Maynard though. Maynard's fights with Frankie and with Clay were too wild.

But Clay stays near the top for being 100% entertainment always. He should be a spokes person for Red Bull.
While Guida has extremely high energy he is just so awkward in there he makes me cringe.

And lately Greg Jackson has been trying to change his fighting style somewhat. Good luck with that.

Clay has had his moments but big losses to Maynard, Henderson, Florian, Sanchez and Melendez push him well down the list of contenders.

Hmmm..Rematch Kampmann perhaps.

The first one was very exciting and could of gone either way as I remember.

Both are still relevant in the division and both are coming off losses and that seems to fit booker Joe Silva's criteria for match making.

GSP/Silva at a catch weight I see as a win win for GSP...Take the cash and IF you lose people will say Silva was too big and you still have your 170lb title and if you win its a bonus.

GSP/Diaz...to me Diaz has not earned a shot yet...yes his mouth like Sonnen can talk into one but I see no better outcome for Diaz than Condit....GSP now with a fight after his layoff will only be stronger and Diaz could not handle Condit so no better result for him.........Diaz bitches about GSP money, but at what age or time will Diaz take responsibilty and man up play the UFC game shut up and win..this is a guy who lost to Diego Sanchez and Sean Sherk and beat and beat a broken BJ Penn..what really can he offer GSP?

It's up to the UFC of course, but being such a top contender I'd match Condit and Fitch. Since losing to GSP Jon Fitch has been on a terror and is earning his way back. This match would prove condit another earned another chance, or move Jon closer to a title shot
Joe Silva has traditionally matched winners with winners so Fitch/Condit seems unlikely. Fitch didn't seem like he was on to much of a terror when he fought Hendricks, lol.

GSP-Silva still bugs me, and I hope George refuses it based on weight. He will lose, and it will not be fun for anyone....
The only way for GSP to win is to take him down and do his usual top control and honestly I've seen that movie to many times now.

Super Fight - That belongs to Silva and Jon Jones. Its would be an excellent main event fight, one I couldn't guess the outcome on.
Silva won't do this because he knows that he would stand a good chance of losing. Of course he likes to tell the public that they are good friends and that is why he would rather not engage him. Yeah okay.lol.

The next best thing to it would be GSP vs Nick Diaz. Build it up, let Nick talk smack and get tensions going. I'd see Diaz winning this one in a fight that would look much like Diaz and KJ Noons. Nick would pick apart George with his reach, and stuff any take down attempts. GSP is a genetic freak though, so it would be a battle.
I wish that Nick could stuff his takedowns but lets face it if Kos and Fitch couldn't do it with their wrestling background then I highly doubt that Diaz could. In the past Nick hasn't really cared that much about TD anyways as he preferred to work his Jits off his back. The stand up between might be closer than you think as well if GSP were to implore a Condit strategy of sticking and moving.

I'd say Hendricks who has been pounding his way to a title shot, should face the winner of GSP-Diaz unless their fight was so close ( like Maynard/Edgar) that it warrented a sequel.
Hendricks is the logical choice but he doesn't quite have the box office draw that Siva does does he? And Dana keeps on mentioning Cowboy stadium as a destination for a super fight.

Having watched most of Nick's fights numerous times I can tell you that for most of his career he has applied really stupid game plans.

He usually fights to his opponents strengths!

His losses mostly are because of this. He even said this in an interview lately. Okay so Greg Jackson he is not.

Has Nick earned a title shot? No not in my opinion. But this is Dana's world and he will go with public opinion and give the masses what they want to see.

I love Nick. Anyone who can fight at that level with that amount of THC in their system is okay with me,lol.

Plus he's one of the few real warriors left. He comes forward all fight long with relentless pressure. That's what I pay too see.

I don't think any fighter should be pressured to fight in a higher weight class just for the league, or the intrigue. If GSP wants to do it, let them go at it. Same goes for Anderson fighting Jon Jones......HOWEVER..... Anderson has already proven himself in the light heavy weight division. If he ducks Jon Jones then it has more do with being scared of a superior fighter. And honestly I don't think Anderson should be scared of Jon Jones. I think he'll take the fight

Lmao@myself. Ooops, you got me there. I totally forgot about that, and shame on my for it. That was a wild KO.
I'll give you a pass just this one time, lol.

Seriously though there are so many events these days it is getting harder and harder to remember all of the fights.

They are watering down their product and the PPV numbers are reflective of that.

I'd like to see more order in the UFC..... like a ranking system for example. A better organization of the schedule such that if GSP wins the natural contender is lined up for the next time GSP is ready to fight.

I'd like to see at least one title fight per ppv.... typically that happens but I think there have been ones that there wasn't one.

As for Clay Guida.... he's the perfect short notice/injury substitute. I don't think he's a real contender as his record shows that but he's entertaining.

Speaking of that for every big fight there should be a designated substitute in case someone gets injured.

And as for GSP losing to Silva and just chalikng it up to size..... that is definitely a no pressure situation but people forget that it is a fight. Losing could mean never being the same after it, so there's his career to think about. Choosing to fight someone above your weightclass is not to be taken lightly (no pun intended)

I'd just like to say I like Clay Guida and all, but I wish he'd cut his hair. I realize it's his choice and somewhat for marketing, but in all of his fights he keeps having to brush it out of his face. It annoys me because I'm sure it effects/affects(what's the proper word?) his fighting ability.

In the old UFC days other fighters would have a field day pulling him around the cage with it(Royce Gracie).
