Still to early to conclude there is a trend of any kind, regardless I think the new version sucks, just my opinion. As much as I think Charlie Sheen was an moron for his outburst that led to his firing, the show's chemistry between the actors was much better. I'm now watching reruns over the new show and find them funnier, lol.

Sure, 17M viewers is higher than the show had been seeing, but the trendline is not impressive: from 28.74M viewers for the season premiere, down to 17.7M viewers last week, and down again to 16.2M viewers for this week's episode. Certainly, the numbers haven't shown any sign of stabilizing yet after the bump generated by the hype for the season premiere.
The only thing we can be sure of with the current evidence is that the show won't stablize above the charlie sheen years. I think it is very safe to say it will probably drop a bit more, but could easily see about a 10 to 12 level. Considering the huge buzz and jump generated by the first two episodes to expect anything less than a massive drop would be asking a bit much. For that matter I doubt if any but the most deluded would think that a Kutcher 2.5 men once it stabilized would beat out a Sheen 2.5 men. I can't see anyone really being worried by the numbers, without being seriously deluded. Sadly Even 8 or 10 million viewers would probably be enough for the show to struggle on for years. Again the Simpsons, it long ago stopped being funny, the numbers are way down from the peak, and it seems the only reason people still watch it is out of habit. It got a second lease on life by the talent taking a good pay cut... after 23 or so seasons. The 2.5 men show talent also as I understand it got a massive pay cut when Kutcher replaces Sheen, and it isn't as if the other talent are going anywhere. Personally I think the show should have rapped up in season 6 with the Charlie Rose angle, but they will keep pumping them out, and out of habit I will probably keep burning the DVDs and watching them.

Now if they got Chuck Norris to replace Charlie Sheen the numbers of course would keep going up.
