TV shows that you remember, but were not giant hits and faded into the background.

VR.5, mostly for Lori Singer, of course, but it was an interesting concept. Another Fox show that only lived for one season (as did the aforementioned John Doe).

Gemeni Man

The premis was too simple. A scientist discovers the ability to be invisable. He is able to maintain invisability only for a limited time. On missions to infiltrate crime he appears at the wrong moment.
Of course when he appears the criminals are not frightentend and beat the crap out of him. The show was taken off the air after 5 episodes.

A fairly recent show called Life. Starred Damian Lewis (from Band of Brothers - Dick Winter) and a very hot Sarah Shahi. The first season was screwed by the Writers Strike (of 2008) and the second season was done in by the Execs at NBC who had their noses up Jay Leno's arse. Quirky, funny but well written.

Minder, with Dennis Waterman as Terry the hired muscle for George Cole's spiv 'Arfur', light-hearted take on Cockney cops and mostly robbers. now twenty-some years on, Dennis plays retired cop Jerry with a fabulous cast in the series New Tricks which PBS scooped from TVO to run on Saturday nights. Writing and directing of real intelligence supporting superior actors who know if you're not laughing, you're dead.

And all without onscreen violence to speak of or super-powers.
