And, let's not forget that he's walking back the auto tariffs...

Basically, the CEOs of automakers told him they would be forced to raise prices and/or face supply chain issues. This "temporary" pause will probably last much longer than Trump and company will want to admit.

Trump view's trade like the mercantile system from the 1790s. And, he's basically fucking up America's economic dominance and giving a lot of ground to China. He is such a tool.

Trump's tariffs, reduced tariffs, pause on tariffs, oh wait, tariffs are back etc. must be driving auto execs. nuts. How can any manufacturer plan for the future when he changes his mind and creates new policies every week. What a lunatic.

Trump's popularity is tanking as the Americans are very concerned about where the country is heading.
China on the other hand is expanding its market to several other Nations including the EU.
The biggest losers at the very end will be The USA and not China!!

China will fold on the tariff wars. There is political unrest on CHina soil. Toyota & Nissan to invest big time on China doesn't affect the US market LoL...
Dude buy a clue please. 1 ethane is used for making PLASTIC, Chinese industry RUNS on plastic, and as for pharma, don't you think the govt does not want to harm the people in China that may depend on some US drugs? China will only really put massive tariffs on US products it can easily replace.

What you have no clue is that China is a very corrupt country and Xi has a big bullseye on his back...he can also be replaced easily.. you seem to forget that US don't play clean when it comes to competitors...

Several reports about Xi losing his sphere of influence within the PLA with some of his loyalists purged. Most notable are the rocket force generals purged last year, Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu. Recently, He Weidong, Miao Hua and Lin Xiangyang were purged. Lin was in charge of the PLAs Eastern Theatre Command (aka Taiwan invasion) and He Weidong was a staunch Xi loyalist who was elevated to the 3rd highest position within the PLA.

There are several theories about the purges. A few credible sources said Zhang Youxia (former Xi ally and currently highest ranking ) is behind this and is backed by the Shanghai clique who are extremely unhappy with the state of the Chinese economy over the past year.

Also, isn't the Toyota investment old news? I thought they made this announcement back in Nov.

Unfortunately, I don't see much success for these investments as domestic loyalty to Chinese brands are intense. With state subsidies continuing to pour into domestic auto makers, they will not be able to compete in Chinese market.

a lot of these people here base their info on CNN and MSNBC who regurgitates the narrative to oblivion. Just like what they do in the middle east news... I've traveled to the middle east and lived for 9 months... the people here have no clue what is happening there...I've also lived in HK and visit China (Beijing) back when HK was under the British all the way to the turn over.... one thing I know about how the Chinese business is that anybody can be a business partner if there's money to be had...if China feels the tariff war is counter productive, they will re negotiate...does it mean they are folding? No...it just means there is a better way than just being combative... Even Zelensky knew signing a deal with Trump is a much better option than fighting the Russians...

China and America will both fold on the tariff war and come to a hostile truce as they both need each other and are locked in an ultra complicated death dance. There is political unrest in both countries but Trump has a much shorter shelf life and time horizon and will soon be a “ lame duck” president though he will likely go into full autocratic mode and attempt to circumvent the Constitution, the Congress and the Senate. Can Trump hold the MAGA faithful for much longer, probably not as the US is heading for a recession yet the Democrats are in shambles still and May not be seen as offering an attractive alternative.
China is more practical and cultural resilient to adversity and can sustain a downturn and privation much longer than America can.
The greatest fear of the Chinese Communist Party is not foreign influence but a domestic uprising of the masses who live in totalitarian fear and terror.

I don't disagree with you on that...and definitely the problem China faces is domestic with a funding from outside...it's a CIA dirty hand book MO the opposition is somehow holding ground... US (not just Trump)is already shopping for alternatives to China, India will sign a deal with the US that will include a military backing...SoKor and Vietnam will most likely sign a deal as well...IMO Carney meeting with Trump will be a positive... China is not the best option for Canada.

How can any business plan for the future when a scumbug like TRUMP changes his mind by the day and lies about everything. It really shows how far the USA has fallen under TRUMP when big business would rather trust China over the USA as a safer place to make business investments.

I dont think businesses trust the CCP but are lured by low costs and that is the primary driver. Toyotas deal was announed well before any tariffs were levied back in 2024

Vietnam already agreed to buy US military defences packages as well as F16s. You would think that given the ideologies of vietnam and china being communist and being close neighbours they would buy from china. There is a reason why prior to Xi's visit to vietnam, cambodia and malaysia it was being reported all over chinese state media and after his visits, the mentions of Xi's historic trip to vietnam was basically scrubbed.
