There are 80 folders/envelopes, but some are marked "to be returned" so it isn't clear if some of the folders marked classified weren't in the folders saying they had to be returned.

As I posted in the other thread, those folders are typically reusable covers so they may not have had sensitive info in them when Trump took them. It does create a huge issue though as there is typically no way to know whether or not there are files missing.
There seems to be some confusion about whether or not these are the reusable folders, folders that may have been in other folders, or the kind of folders that list the contents.
All we have is that list, and I don't think DOJ has said more.

The folder are a very minor issue compared to all the highest level of secret docs the FBI found including sources and methods which can only be taken to a skiff or secure room. Wonder if he shared our most confidential secrets or sold them to his good buddy Putin, or his dear friend in N Korea or Iran. Such a disgrace he is to the US and no concern about the US only his egotistical self.

Yes, folders are reusable, it is hard to believe that the POTUS would have a stack of empty folders. It is hard to believe that he took a bunch of empty folders home as a dinner party show and tell. Folders themselves is not the issue, if content inside is actually missing, that is worse than all the material recovered by the FBI
Please, if the folders were always empty do you think that the former guy or one of his lawyers might have mentioned it? Right now they are probably huddling and trying to figure out who will take the fall.
Yes, it is near impossible that the folders were empty. It will be hard to prove how the content went missing. If there is a smoking gun, than he is done. But there will not be a smoking gun unless someone inside or whoever has the document turn on him.
When you have thrown as many people under the bus as he has eventually one of them will come back to get you. Many have tried without success but like everything else in life eventually your luck runs out.
It is likely that classified documents are inventoried and tracked in some way. they may be some way to determine whether or not what would have been the contents are at the National Archive. If this is doable and the documents are missing someone is going down. if they are found at the NA or wherever they should rightly be then trumps lawyers should be lose their tickets for gross incompetence.
Problem with the missing document (to be determined) and the recovered document, what does the DOJ do from here. If they criminally charge the former POTUS, it would create another Jan 6. He will not be going down without taking the system down with him. DOJ are in a no win situation. This is the very divided country that he has created.
So people should be able to avoid prosecution by intimidation and tacit threats? is that your idea of the US. Some people are above the law.
Except some of Trump's base will peel away if he creates riots. He'd be left with the 5% of the population that are dumb assholes who believe in conspiracy theories and make trouble.
