Europe too.
The EU charges 10% import duties on US imported cars, but the US only charges 2.5% import duties on EU imported cars.
This needs to be fixed
The US charges 25% import duties on light trucks, the EU charges 10%. Light trucks are 1/3 of the US market. Funny enough: 1/3*.25 + 2/3*.025 = 0.10.
The practical US tariff on vehicle imports is 10%. Thats why the EU tariff is 10%. That's why the EU is happy to go 0 for 0, because it advantages them.
Trump does not understand trade. If you need proof, listen to his words here:
Trump: It’s non monetary tariffs.. They drop the bowling ball on the top of your car from 20 feet up in the air and if there's a little dent they say no, I'm sorry, your car doesn't qualify

He's trying to explain non-monetary trade barriers. But he's explaining them like someone at the end of the line in the telephone game.
Second: non-monetary tariffs are another way of saying REGULATIONS. Sovereign nations are allowed to make their own regulations. If he wanted US manufacturers to be able to export more easily, he'd work with the EU on harmonizing regulations. KEI cars are the best selling vehicles in Japan. Many states have already banned KEI cars. If he could open up a KEI class in the US, US makers would be able to export them to Japan.
Pretending that regulations are tariffs shows an absolute clown-show level of understanding of economics, trade, engineering, manufacturing, and everything in between. This is a deeply ignorant man who is trying to use the "might" of the US at a time when the world can already move on from them.
He's the drunk husband yelling "Hey come back here! I'll show you what's what!" after she's taken the car and is already a block away.
