And yes, it is a shame that too many Cirrus pilots wait too long to pull the chute. There is a whole sector of pilots who say the Cirrus attracts people with too much money and not enough piloting aptitude because they claim that these pilots think that they can just fly and pull the chute at the first onset of any problem. They even try to say that real pilots don't fly planes with a chute. It's a jealousy or macho thing. I disagree. I think the chute is a great idea in both the piston and jet Cirrus. I know two very experienced pilots who pulled and walked away uninjured. One had an engine failure on takeoff from a mountain airport and would have certainly died if he tried to land. Pulled the chute and floated down nice and easy! The other guy had an engine failure in flight and could have made a power off landing in a field but he said why take the chance and pulled the chute. All 4 walked away without a scratch!
