Frankie youre using a cartoonist to give you advice on oil and gas? Come on, do better. Everyone knows that the carbon tax gets passed onto the lower and middle class. The secret has been out for a while. Too many people choose to ignore it however.
Everyone knows that PeePee lies.

CERB, $10 day care, dental and the carbon tax all benefit the lower and middle classes.
PeePee would only back his Loblaws donors and boost grocery prices and tax breaks for the rich.

Why subsidize an industry making massive profits when they clearly can pay their own way?
Pay their own way for what exactly?
Subsidies come in different forms and for different reasons, some of which don't only apply to the oil industry but many large companies as well.
Advancing technology through innovation to make oil & gas more efficient along the entire chain of processes costs money. It's the government driving them to do this as well as benefitting from jobs that are created.
The government also receives a lot of upstream tax revenue from oil companies.
Shareholders benefit from higher profits as most large oil companies are owned by millions of people within pension plans.

In simple terms, Canadians succeed if the oil industry succeeds.

You still need to pay for services, tax the rich and corporations more if you want lower taxes on the middle class.
You mean punish people like doctors, engineers and scientists with more taxes?
You mean punish corporations that will either just pack up and leave or just pass the costs onto consumers?

You are very short sighted.

The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The problem with right wingers is they want socialism but won't pay their fair share.
You want less taxes?

Stop using public roads, police, socialized health care, public schools, libraries....

You want to use them, pay for them.

Ironic that what you call "fair share" is actually not fair at all.

What you really mean is anyone who has invested in themselves and/or in their business and is successful needs to make up for the ones who haven't and the ones who are lazy and be punished for their success.

Production, environmental cleanup, damages for climate change, damages to the environment.
Why are we paying their profit through subsidies?
Innovation drives economies. Investment in innovation helps everyone.
They can't help everyone without an investment through various subsidies.
The significant return on investment is what the subsidies allow.

If the oil companies are not successful then things like pension plans suffer. For example, the teachers pension fund has billions invested in oil/gas.

he has been pushing that subsidy bullshit for a very long time
ask him to name the govt program / department writing the checks to the oil and gas companies
he cant because it never happened before Trudeau

oil and gas is a massive cash cow for all levels of govt

$495 billion in government revenues from the Canadian oil and gas industry projected over next decade
(which includes provincial royalties and federal and provincial corporate taxes)
they do not mention the sales taxes at the pump

what frankfooter is whining about is capital cost allowance (CCA)
deductions from taxable income for investing capital in a business buying equipment, assets etc

every business in Canada gets to claim these deductions
it successfully encourages business to invest in their business and has been in the tax code forever

they are not subsidies

ones who haven't and the ones who are lazy
It is a grossly incorrect assumption that richer people are far more hard working and poorer people are comparatively lazy.

I know, you think if I stole everything you've got, including your home, then that would be taking my fair share.
That laws and regulations are for the weak, the oligarchy doesn't want them to slow down their 'fair share'.

You really do seem to think Monopoly isn't just a game, its a way of life.

You know that number includes the carbon tax, don't you?
That post also proves that the government could easily cut $10 billion a year in subsidies and even by their numbers they'd still be making billions.

Which is why I said "successful". Which why I aslo said "people who invested in themselves". Whether people worked harder than others to be successful is irrelevant here and is subjective anyway.
The question was "what does fair share" mean? People who make more money pay more taxes already. Apparently that is not considered a "fair share". So what is?

So what is "fair share" when you refer to "rich people" paying it?
And then explain why someone owes you money just because they make more of it than you do without sounding like a Communist?

I think the primary gripe is with the super rich. Like Elon Musk, paying very low taxes. Like Jeff Bezos paying 0 in income taxes.

Have you considered how much money people like that have generated for the economy? In turn how much tax revenue the government obtains from that? How many jobs they have created through their innovation and the risks they have taken? How much they have donated to charities and other institutions?

People of that kind of wealth have most of it invested into stocks, properties, etc and don't pay taxes on it until they sell. Until then, they mostly live off borrowed money based on their asset collateral.

They are not criminals as the usual socialist narrative suggests.

Dont care. They still need to pay the majority of their wealth as taxes. I'd make them pay 95%. They'd still have billions left over. It is absolutely not acceptable for them to pay 0 when the little guy is paying half his salary in taxes.

Their companies pay taxes and so do they. Feeling entitled to someone else's wealth is simply socialist greed.
The "little guy" is who the government punishes when trying to convince people they are making the wealthy pay more. The little guy is most often the middle class. That's why it has been steadily shrinking.

It's not shrinking because Jeff Bezos makes a lot of money. That is a distraction from reality.

You are being played by leftist propaganda while they steal from you and have you believe it's someone else.

I said the fact that they pay 0 is unacceptable. Their companies are a different entity. Basically the fact that billionaires exist amongst us is in and of itself an aberration. As such most of what they earn should be given back to the public.
