Airplane food cost more than $220K on Trudeau's Indo-Pacific trip
Meals included beef brisket with mashed parsley potatoes with truffle oil, braised lamb shanks and baked cheesecake with pistachio brittle

New records show that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s six-day Indo-Pacific trip in September 2023 had a catering bill of more than $223,000.

The trip, in which Trudeau met with business leaders in Singapore and the president of Indonesia as well as attending the G20 summit in India, cost nearly $2 million.

The catering costs had previously been pegged closer to $180K but a response to an order paper question in the House of Commons reveals the final tally was $223,234.

The total cost of the trip could still rise as some records continue to be processed.

The number of passengers travelling with Trudeau on a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-150 Polaris ranged from 37 to 72 across various stages of the trip, with one notable segment of travel notching a catering bill of $85,000 alone.

Meals on-board the plane included beef brisket with mashed parsley potatoes with truffle oil, pan fried beef tenderloin with port wine sauce, braised lamb shanks with steamed broccoli and boiled baby potatoes, and baked cheesecake with pistachio brittle.

In a statement to National Post, Canadian Taxpayers Federation federal director Franco Terrazzano drew parallels to Gov. Gen. Mary Simon’s infamous March 2022 trip to Dubai, where she and her 29 guests incurred a $100,000 inflight catering bill over the course of a week.

“It might be tough to connect with the middle class while chowing down on lamb shanks served on fine China and billing taxpayers for it,” said Terrazzano. “You shouldn’t need a focus group to recommend telling the prime minister to turn down the baked cheesecake with pistachio brittle when Canadians are lining up around the block at the foodbank.”

A special request was also made to stock the plane with Flow Water, a brand of premium alkaline spring water. According to the CTF the product is a Trudeau favourite that has shown up in his personal grocery expenses.

Following the outrage that accompanied Simon’s bill in 2022, a parliamentary committee grilled bureaucrats about the significant expenses.

“We recognize that the system that we had in place was not delivering the kind of oversight and control that Canadian taxpayers deserve,” said Stewart Wheeler, who was then Canada’s chief of protocol. “Certainly, drink garnishes will be eliminated from service.”

“Is the government running a secret contest to see who can order up the most expensive meals while flying around the world?” Terrazzano said. “Someone should let the prime minister know the government promised to cut down on fancy airplane food because Trudeau doubled Simon’s outrageous tab.”

Am sure PP would subsist on Apples alone that he bought at the local Asian fruit market.

Basically there were 72 people, and they spent 3000 bucks on food per person. Considering statesmen travel in the equivalent of 1st class accommodation I'd say this was not that exorbitant, considering an economy class seat from Toronto to New Delhi costs $2200 per person, TODAY.

Mr. Trudeau will flip his lid when he reads this and be upset that this leaked... But he should be mad at himself for his blatant arrogance of how this will appear...Reporters and the opposition will question him but he will deflect in true form.

Mr. Poilievre should take note and bring a box lunch with him wherever there is a camera.

Justin's dad use to eat at the Egg Roll House on Notre Dame street. In a poor man's neighborhood. ( the area has been gentrified now ) I do not know if he just liked the Chinese food or if he was doing the political theatre for the public by eating there.

Trudeau SR was known to be stingy for the wealth he possessed. I read
that Maggie revealed in her autobiography she as the 1st lady received
only a few tens of bugs in monthly allowance. I also remember reading old
Trudeau on his visit to Deborah Coyne (the lawyer he banged when he
was 70) and their daughter in Toronto he was residing somewhere
in a collgege residence.

Cost of Liberals' 'affordability' cabinet retreat rises to nearly $500K, updated figures show
The late-August retreat in Charlottetown wrapped with no new plans or announcements to address housing or affordability
Published Feb 05, 2024

Updated expense numbers put the cost of the Trudeau Liberals’ three-day affordability-focused cabinet retreat last summer at just under half-a-million dollars, including more than $50,000 on a banquet.

Figures contained within online proactive disclosures and newly released responses to order paper questions put the current cost of the retreat, held in Charlottetown Aug. 21 to 23, at $485,196.

However, costs could still be higher as there are receipts still outstanding and some departments have declined to disclose their costs related to the retreat.

“Spending more than four hundred grand on a three-day retreat to tackle affordability is tone-deaf and unacceptable,” said Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

“Canadians don’t need politicians wasting this type of money, we need them to stop raising taxes that make life more expensive,” he said.

Joined by his cabinet ministers and staff, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau descended on Charlottetown in late August with a plan to focus on addressing the housing and affordability crisis.

In November, National Post reported on preliminary tallies for the trip showing interim expenses for just the Privy Council Office reached $160,467.17.

The Privy Council Office, which facilitated the retreat, is overseen by five cabinet ministers: the prime minister and deputy prime minister, the government House leader, president of the King’s Privy Council, and the intergovernmental affairs minister.

Adding to what was previously reported, the PCO’s hotel costs came to $100,922.51, with rooms rented at both the Delta Hotels Prince Edward and the Holman Grand Hotel.

As well, the PCO spent $36,277.55 on airfare for its staff and ministers, $58,891 for the retreat’s meeting room rentals, $49,572.10 to Encore Global Events for the retreat’s equipment rental, and $35,001.10 for the rental of communications and networking equipment.

Within the cost breakdowns for the Privy Council Office was a $52,394.53 hospitality charge for a banquet.

The new numbers put the Privy Council Office’s cost for the retreat at $328,825.11.

Other ministries were responsible for their own airfare and lodging costs.

Despite plans to tackle affordability and housing, the retreat wrapped with no new plans or announcements to address either issue, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau telling Canadians there are no easy answers in resolving the crisis.

“We are looking forward to continue to do the work we’ve been doing on housing and do even more,” Trudeau told reporters at the end of the trip.

“We recognize and Canadians know that there’s not one silver bullet that’s going to solve the housing challenges.”

Some agencies, including Global Affairs Canada, provided no specific breakdowns on their expenses for the retreat — instead pointing to an online proactive expense portal that collated total expenses for each fiscal year across the entire department.

Inquires for comment to the Prime Minister’s Office were directed to the Privy Council Office, but it has yet to respond to questions from National Post.

Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett said the expense was unnecessary and insensitive.

“While millions of Canadians are using food banks and cutting their travel plans because Trudeau’s taxes and inflation are driving up the cost of living, nothing could be more out of touch for Justin Trudeau and his Liberals than to take a $400,000 retreat which could have been held in Ottawa for a fraction of the cost,” he said.

It was a 6 day trip which means that the airplane catering bill was $520/day per person. That doesn't include the cost of any other meals such as room service. Sorry but this is excessive. In my company we give a travel meal allowance of $80 per day. Revised from $60 per day pre Covid.

So that is even better and not excessive. The Prime Minister is not going to subsist on 80 bucks a day. No PM ever has in the past either. PM's are entitled as statesmen to certain privileges such as 1st class travel, 5 star accommodation and the associated fancy foods. As I mentioned an economy class ticket to Delhi is 2200 bucks today. During the holidays I have paid as much as 4000 bucks once. Considering all that, it is quite reasonable.

That's nothing to the 5 month holiday and massive raises from DoFo.
You need people to make Ontario a prosperous province as they are doing.

“Since 2018, Ontario has increased its revenues by over $50 billion and added more than 750,000 jobs to our economy,” a spokesperson for the premier’s office said in response to questions about the size and cost of cabinet.

Come on K, you can't honestly think $220k for 6 days of food is reasonable, be honest, we're all friends here, no one is going to judge. lol

DoFo lies and you fall for it every time.
The only new jobs are in the service industry, uber eats and people working two jobs to get by.
Ontario may have increased its revenue but its running the biggest deficit in its history.

There were 72 people. 6 days. That is 500 bucks per day, per person. If you assume 3 meals, 1 tea, then that is about 125 bucks per meal. But this is the PM, 1st class travel and accommodation. I ordered 2 Large Pizzas and a Salad from North of Brooklyn yesterday and it was like 90 bucks. You see now how it is not that much? Its basically the cost of a wedding plate lol.
