Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I think that this will be the very first year that I will pass on handing out candy on Halloween Night. Just plan to give the surrounding neighbours children some treats and that is it.

Any thoughts?

Masks are important, but kids being outside and doing the candy thing - bars and what not are far worse. In fact, school is far worse. Let the kids have there few day of fun - I don't think halloween will survive the pandemic, kids already hardly do sports because of virtual, and almost none bother to learn to drive anymore (since they need there parents wnyway till they turn 18 with the g2 thinkgy) Hopefully there be put out there misery soon.

How would handing out candy in any way endanger you?

This is a truly bizarre sentiment by the covidiots who seem to think shopping at a Walmart or eating in a restaurant is safe yet fear kids in Halloween costumes

I'd say at a rough estimate (based on who has decorated) that at least half the parents are not sending kids out this year so def buy less candy

16 years old to get a G1. 8 months later, with a driver training course, can get a G2. If not then at 17.

You only need to hold a G1 for a year before you take the G2 test. So you don’t have to wait until 18. I don’t know where you got that from. You can own a car and have insurance with a G2.

As for the topic, I am not handing out candy.

I am so ready for those little devils. I hope they come. It wasn't that long ago when the parents of those little devils were little devils themselves.

A few years ago I attended an industry Halloween party at one of the spas (Wicked?). Good turnout of ladies and patrons. All or almost the ladies wore masks and some allowed pics to be taken.

I stand corrected. When the law was proposed it was a two year waiting time. If it was changed then or later I was not aware but it appears to be changed. Hell I though the young offenders act was still in place but it only for grandfather cases now.
The Full G takes 2 years or 20 months with the fast track, assuming instant testing ( which rarely happens in Toronto) In practice I imagine its much longer, but who knows. In my youth testing was usally months after the request, but you could book ahead - so it only was really a deal for those who failed the test. You could always travel to a less busy testing center as well.

Regarless the care as a party vehchile for teens seems to be less than it was. as G2 does not allow this but its not bad as I thought. Though again, today I heard of another friends child who not going to learn to drive.

There are like 10 different versions of law based on when you were born. Youth Criminal Justice Act is newest version currently in force and it's 99% same as Young Offenders Act

Ironically they had introduced the YCJA to "toughen" up laws but in many cases (most obvious being probation violations) they have drastically reduced the number of kids charged

It has more teeth against serious crimes such as murder though, and allowing younger kids to be charged with serious crimes

???
In old days the 365 / L licenses were irrelevant for dates
You could literally walk in, do your written test, get the 365, then walk BACK in and take your full G test
You had 365 days to take test, anywhere from Day 1 to Day 365 it was all good
You took test when you were ready

That was the law for decades, they introduced the learner permit in the 60s
People had fits when the new G1 / G2 / G system was introduced

BTW something else you may have heard when you were referring to the "2 year" wait on a G2
In Ontario they can legally block you from driving if you are a high school drop out
So that 16 year old kid can't take his test until he is 18
Maybe what you were thinking of

As mentioned above you also need to be enrolled in school
Otherwise that 16 year does indeed wait to 18

Thanks for the info. It might have been a drop out case as you say.
As for testing, the drive test was based on when the instructor was ready. And ya, I was assuing you took the course to get the insurance rate deduction which was optional and nothing to do with licensees directly. However, unless you planned ahead our driver test was booked for months in advance as every kid I know wanted to drive as soon as possible. Except me, since I drove a bike. That was super easy and pretty rare.

How did we go from talking about Halloween and trick or treating to drive tests?

Giving away free candy is indoctrinating kids into the communist ideology, kids need to learn that if they want candy they have to earn the money to buy it by working the coal mines or as a chimney sweep or making iPhones.
