so there's is so many of these sites, all with the same sort of claims, lowest prices, ect.

Does anyone have any opinion as to which one of these sites is actually the best.

Booking.com
Kayak
Trivago
expedia.ca
hotwire

or any others that I'm missing that might actually better than the rest.

I tend to find they all come in about the same price. You can even see the flight numbers and compare. Once in a while one will come through with a better deal. That's why you check them all of you are worried over 20+ bucks.

When I fly I want to go at a certain time usually direct. I may glance at one stop but I find even at a 200 buck saving it's not worth the hassle, search and airport connection run when I'm going on vacation.

Nothing kills vacation mood like travel plans messed up.

Not that I'm on them much as I don't get to take to many vacations, but I get so tired of trying to go through them all and search them all so I was curious to see if they're a waste time. From when I've searched, I agree that they seem to come in at the same price from what I've seen.

I used www.fareboom.com last time, you can also try momondo, I like their layouts and navigation, prices are all similar.

Trivago is the most expensive, according to a few articles and blogs who did long(ish) term studies, looking up the same flights at the same times, etc. The various 'experts' suggest you look at
2 - 4 sites, compare to the service provider sites directly, then book whichever you prefer. based on that amount of research. So, look at kayak, expedia, third site, maybe fourth site, then look at aircanada.com and fairmont.com to do a quick gut check. After that, you are apparently wasting your time, as you aren't going to find any earth shattering deals by spending more hours in research.

Bon voyage!

When I have a quick overnighter or something where I'm not going to spend too much time in my hotel, I've used Hotwire and got some great deals.
The only problem is you don't really know what hotel you're booking until you've actually booked it, so not great if it's for a proper vacation or if you absolutely need an upscale hotel.

I had a two night wait in the Orlando area once between vacations, one with friends and one with family so I booked myself "something" on Hotwire for $44 cdn per night. The place was better than OK, but not great. Just for fun, I asked at the desk what the walk in price was. It was $189 usd.
I'd say I did alright with that one.

I have had good results booking hotel rooms in Europe and the US with Trivago.

used Trivago for the first time last week while shopping for hotels in NY state. Found it user friendly, great pricing . Much better than checking 3 or 4 sites trying to get a low price. Would use it again without hesitation.

The best deal is sometimes just directly going to the airline's or hotel's web site.

Travel sites are good if a place is trying to dump excess capacity. But for travel that has tight sales already, you'll find travel sites have more expensive prices because they got no deal from the airline/hotel, but still will offer the travel option on their site.... with the upcharge fee so they can make money.

I booked flights a week ago. The cheapest Air Canada flight was about $750. The exact same flights on AC's own site came to $690. And as an added benefit, AC offers a 24 hour zero-hassle cancellation policy even if you buy the cheapest tier.

I am surpised Trivago was more expensive so far it has been the best price most of the time. Sometimes as much as a $100.

I seem to recall one of the problems with Trivago is they over-rated their hotels. A 4-star hotel on Trivago was 3 stars on the other sites. That would explain lower prices. Can't remember where I read the crap reviews on Trivago or I would link them. There were a couple travel blogger I recall, who did comprehensive reviews of the various ones. A site one guy did like was travel pony, which I've never used so can't comment.

I use a mix of Kayak, momondo and cheapoair for flights and always on different browsers as sometime the cookies can gather your searchs from other websites.

It's a big trick - most of them are owned by the same outfit.

kind of like the time I was in Vegas, was calling all different numbers to escorts. After about the 5th call, the operator/receptionist says "is there some sort of problem? This is the fifth time you've called in 15 minutes"....lol. Didn't realize they all went to the same agency/dispatch.

That is still done here. More than one agency is tied to another.

I can't say whether they have the lowest prices or not, but I've used Kayak for their airfare price alerts, which I found to be very helpful when booking far enough in advance.

If you are a member of Costco, their travel website for rental cars is the best there is. They automatically add all the relevant coupon codes and give you a comparison of top rental companies, and they update daily. You can book multiple car rentals and cancel the higher priced ones at the last minute without any penalty. I haven't used Costco travel for airfare or accommodations, but you might check that out as well.

If I don't need a specific hotel, just a general area and star rating, I like bidding on Priceline. Just find out what typical rates are and give it a go. You should do this well in advance as you can only make one bid a day.

If you travel a lot I would use hotels.com. I book lots of hotels and I find they have the best reward program. I end up with free rooms all the time.
