It was done in bad taste...how can you make a deal if your agenda is to run an ad opposing the very essence of what Trump ran for?
I don't think it was in bad taste. Reagan used to be the star in the GOP sky, up until Trump. They venerated him, at least the neo cons. And, while Trump did run on something like this, I don't think most Americans expected him to tank the economy. Trump ran on lowering inflation, and hasn't done that. In fact, he's done the exact opposite (as seen here: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgkzgrmvdrno), and employment is weakening. Now consumer spending is starting to dip...

I know you don't believe this, but the tariffs will continue to fuel inflation, leading to job loses and a dip in economic activity. The average American is going to keep feeling it, especially when their health insurance premiums skyrocket.... All while Trump spends millions on an unnecessary ballroom...

US already had trade deals with Britain, EU, SoKor, S America, Australia, Japan...it's too late to "isolate" They are the biggest buyers...
As far as I know, none of these deals have been finalized or signed into law. They have a "framework," but that doesn't mean its a done deal.

ballroom is a nothing burger if it's not taxpayers dime..."tanking economy" is another word for "sky is falling"
You guys have short term memory because Biden ruined the US economy Trump took office last January...LMAO

according to chatgpt:
Yes, gas prices are near their lowest level in four years, with a national average of about
$3.16$ 3.16
per gallon as of July 2025. This is a significant decrease from a year ago, and some states have average prices below
$3$ 3
.

  • Current National Average: Approximately
    $3.16$ 3.16
    per gallon.
  • Year-over-Year Comparison: This is nearly a
    10%10 %
    drop from the previous year.
  • State Examples: Some states, such as Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, and South Carolina, have average gas prices below
    $3$ 3

In July that was a four-year low. Right now, the average is about $3.20/gallon. Which is a multi-year low, just not a four. That is splitting hairs. The issue right now is that inflation continue to rise, albeit slower than economists were projecting. What that likely means is some companies are eating the tariffs for now, or at least some of it. We will see how retailers like Walmart explain their profit margins when they release their quarterly results.

But, what you seem to miss here is that tariffs will likely hurt the US economy in many different ways. Trump, in all his idiocy, put blanket tariffs on EVERYTHING, even things the US could not domestically produce, like rare earth minerals or certain types of fruit like bananas. He is using an idiotic formula to pretend the US is being ripped off, which virtually every economist knows is ridiculous. Like, we have a tenth their population, we cannot buy as much American goods as we export. It just cannot happen. Yet, he is so focused on that bullshit. Ford's video might have been a dumb thing to do, especially with Mango Mussolini in power...but it isn't faulty or factual. So, as Reagan predicted, there are trade wars. Look at what China's doing. And, what Reagan didn't think would happen is that other countries are looks at other markets than the US for trade, hence Canada's newest trade deal with Mexico, and other deals in progress, like with the EU.

Bottomline, Trump has destroyed any goodwill the US spent the last 70 years building up with its allies. They will no longer trust the US, even if the next president is significantly better (which admittedly is a very low bar). Due to Trump's actions, the greenback could be replaced as the world's reserve currency. That will have a significant impact on the American and global economy, and help accelerate the speed for China to become the world's biggest economy.

Talks with orange clown are worthless. He probably ended the talks due to Carneys retaliation on the autos rather then what Ford did but the Carney relationship is more important. Also when he gets kicked in the balls by Putin and Xi he picks on Canada.

It's still entirely unclear to me why we are even entering into trade negotiations with the US at this point. They wiped their ass with NAFTA before the link was even dry over soft wood lumber tariffs. Blumph threw the whole thing out and made spurious claims about the trade surplus between our countries but now we're supposed to negotiate with him over it? What ever happened to elbows up? Fuck the Americans. We should be building ports, pipelines and infrastructure to ship out products anywhere in the world other than the US not to mention cutting off all energy exports to the US as soon as is feasibly possible

They were very measured retaliations, I am fine with that, there is no reason to do much more for now. Trade talks and any talks are a waste of time with a lunatic. We just gotta keep jawboning to stroke his ego until the blue tidal wave crushes him.

It's 900 pages...Tell me you read it.
Yes.

Just this one aspect of it is fucking terrifying...

-----------
In terms of abortion rights in the US, Project 2025 plans to:

  • limit access to abortion across the US
  • withdraw the FDA’s approval of the abortion pill mifepristone and remove it from the market
  • use the law (namely the 19th Century ‘Comstock Act’) to ban abortion pills, equipment or materials from being sent through the US Postal Service
  • dismantle abortion protections under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), which require emergency departments that receive Medicare funds to deliver abortion care in cases of emergency treatment, even in states where abortion is banned
  • increase data collection on abortion and require all states to report all abortions that take place—states that don’t share abortion data will have federal funds withheld
  • encourage the Department of Health and Human Services to “maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family”

Thats all it takes 56% disapproval rating. Its a mid term you can bet many of the people that vote on the genocide issue will go back to Dem. That alone will slaughter the GOP in Michigan.

It's a difficult situation. Ford's video is accurate (despite what Trump says about it being fake), and it makes some sense that he was running it in MAGA territory...basically showing them that the tariffs were going to eventually hurt America (well, they already are), maybe as catastrophically as the Great Depression (most economists say that Hoover imposing tariffs made the stock market crash go from a recession that would have been painful for a a year or two, to the Great Depression, which was devastating for a decade or so...). The idea was basically cause the citizens to call their local congressman and bitch about the tariffs, and stop them. We should also remember that these tariffs are illegal, since Trump is using the "emergency" powers very loosely, and congress is the ones who actually pass tariff bills...Something they've been cut out from, and the GOP has no interest in upseting dear leader by rebuking his poorly thought out trade program.

But, at the same time, we know Trump is incredibly thin skinned, and thinks that anything that is against him (truthful or not) is garbage and should be punished.

I suspect that this will be a TACO move, and talks will resume in a week or two. Maybe Carney has to do some damage control, or Ford apologizes. Remember, we're not dealing with a rational leader. He is vain and responds VERY favourably to ass-kissing and flattery.

Now, could this money have been better spent? Probably. Almost for sure. But, at the same time, I sort of like the bold action Ford took. Did it backfire? In the short term, yeah. In the long term, hard to say. Remember, many MAGA folks don't believe they'll be the ones who eventually pay the tariffs, or that it will hurt the US economy. But, eventually, they might.
Ford went outside his lane.
He is a provincial leader and not in charge of federal trade.
Not to mention it was a stupid tactic, it was trolling his base, like something rich would do.

Carney should be pissed at him.
