They are going to have to tear it down sooner or later. All they are doing is spending millions putting that off, till it will cost them 3x to tear it down and expand lakeshore.
Just do it now, it will be cheaper that way.
The Lakeshore (with stoplights) wouldn't be able to handle the additional traffic that currently travels east/west along the Gardiner. You thing traffic is bad now, it would be chaos. Which is exactly why they haven't torn it down. Traffic models have also shown it would be a really bad idea to tear it down.

Wait until you see how bad traffic becomes when the Gardiner is reduced to two lanes in each direction between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue for three years, beginning in late March.

Only Toronto would start major construction that will snarl up FIFA LOL
It , believe it or not, is not a project that can safely be delayed.
This time it is not cracks in the barrier walls,
or cracks in the deck,
but actually failing transverse supports that hold up the whole road deck.

We band-aided it over 15 years ago
, and that patch up was not very successful.

Too rotted concrete to anchor the reinforcing bolts into.

Red House over yonder.
Would it be less expensive to rebuild the Gardiner at street level or just slightly raised and build a few overpasses or tunnels to Lakeshore? Why does it need to be that high? If they need to tear everything down and haul the debris away and then rebuild it to its present height is the proposed schedule even realistic?

The thing wont stay up forever, it’s crumbling. Its tear down is inevitable. And Traffic will still suck donkey balls.

As someone who uses the gardiner often, agree with this. The amount of crumbling concrete and massive cracks is very apparent.

Don’t sit on park benches due to Covid and people believed it. What a farce. People are so stupid 😂
God I just shivered. Imagining my family members wiping down. Benches or putting bags on benches but then putting those bags in their back seat of the car lol. Nothing made sense. Or standing in a giant circle to talk to one another. felt Like everyone was a secret agent watching one another to make sure no doorknob was touched

Sorry but Toronto's tax rate is lower than every other city in the region other than Hamilton.

In a western style democracy, taxes are what is used to pay for services. Yes there is waste in any bureaucracy but that's been a feature of every government in the history of the world and that's not going be stopped no matter what Toronto does. All that happens by the "cost cutting" politicians is to keep voters in the dark as infrastructure falls apart (and the US is in far worse states).
Property and income taxes are regressive taxes that do not generate enough revenue . Most western countries are transitioning to consumption taxes.
