Stupid move
Could just let it fall apart.

Like much of our infrastructure, the Gardiner is well past its designed lifespan but since people hate paying taxes, they keep patching them instead of replacing them with something suited to current needs.

People already pay more taxes than ever before. The problem isn't that people don't like paying taxes, it's that so much of that money is misallocated.

Guess I won't be going downtown any time soon, or seeing any Jays games. Not really a fan of driving to Burlington and leaving my car there to take the Go Train. I have taken Megabus from the St. Catharines, but now it will take them forever to get from Dufferin Street into the their Union Station parking spots.

I mean, I understand that these repairs need to be done....but damn, three years??? Anyone that needs to get downtown should start thinking about parking at the subway stations (Kipling, Warden, Vaughan, etc) and taking the subway in, or if you're farther in the burbs, take a GO train....Going to be BRUTAL for traffic in a city already known for its horrible traffic...

I don't go in to the city often these days. Maybe 1 or 2 Jay games a year and maybe 1 concert.
It's getting so fucking painful. I think I'm at a point of not going in at all anymore. Just getting too old for the bullshit.
I live in Mississauga not far from the lake and it still is at least 1 hour each way, sometimes longer. Doesn't matter if I drive, take GO, take subway or combination of them.
Last time it was a total of 3 hours there and back with half the city so torn up, it was difficult walking around.

I think those who are driving already and enduring the current congestion are doing so because those alternatives are way worse for them - agreed it's going to awful, and this is just the second of a bunch more rebuild phases like this...

Say you work close to Union, and live Oshawa. The train is about a an hour ride. It would probably take you longer to drive. And, you can relax and chill on the Train, instead of fighting bumper to bumper traffic...Seems like an appealing alternative to me....

November 14-16 and November 21-23 are definitely six days this year to avoid going anywhere near Downtown Toronto; that's when Taylor Swift is playing the Rogers Centre. It's going to be a shitshow.

Aside from a lunch hour bonk, for those who do travel down town every day, what do you do that can't be done from a home office?
Do you really believe everyone downtown sits in front of a computer? Who do you think builds all those condos, work in banks, restaurants, retail. List goes on and on.
Judging by the number of people in downtown I say lots of people can't work from home.

This is accurate. Amazing how some people have no clue how many diff types of jobs people do that don’t involve an internet connection and a laptop.

Sorry but Toronto's tax rate is lower than every other city in the region other than Hamilton.

In a western style democracy, taxes are what is used to pay for services. Yes there is waste in any bureaucracy but that's been a feature of every government in the history of the world and that's not going be stopped no matter what Toronto does. All that happens by the "cost cutting" politicians is to keep voters in the dark as infrastructure falls apart (and the US is in far worse states).
