I met a guy who worked in L.A. and he said the rivalry between L.A. and San Fran went like this: people from San Fransisco hated L.A. whereas people from L.A. were like "Huh?". I get the same feeling with Vancouver versus Toronto. It seems they hate us but we're like "Vancouver who? Oh right, mountains and pot". I've met many a Vancouverite who openly dissed Toronto. I've never had that from meeting Canadians from other provinces.

Yup, pretty typical. And old. And uncreative.

However, wouldn't it be fun to start a Toronto-wide boycott of Coors?

Pretty stupid stuff from a corporation when it risks alienating the biggest customer base in the country---the marketing exec that ok'd this should get canned.

Take it from someone who lived in Vancouver for 12 years, they like to whine about everything over there, it's as if they feel entitled to everything Toronto gets! Take the NBA for example, we get the Raptors, and they whine about having their own team, the Grisley's (I think), and look what happened to them...

I've been travelling to Vancouver since the mid 80's in business and have heard this crap since then, nothing has changed. As one of the previous poster stated, Vancouverites like to whine alot, at the time they considered themselves more American than Canadian.

Most of Canada considers Toronto to be americanized but it's
also a world class city with the most multiculture in the world.

There is always lots of entertainment and sports, TV, movies going on.
ohh and T.o. is about 75% escort ;)

I'm not sure about Vancouver but I envy them for the 2010 Olympics. As for L.A.
and San Francisco all the shit went on at the ball games for the past 50 years!

The NBA team from BC was the Vancouver Grizzlies. Fan support was good, they could have survived. It was mismanagement that did them in and forced a relocation to the US.

As for the dislike of Toronto I thought that was the attitude outside of Ontario.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the Seattle Mariners of baseball were to play a 'home' series in Vancouver vs the Jays. I would not expect a pro Toronto crowd, but it would be interesting.

What do you mean by "75% escort" ?

As for the Olympics, better them then us. I do not want to put up with the traffic nightmare the Olympics would bring.

I think the ad in the original post is correct, Toronto is known as a cold city.

"What we've told consumers is we're sorry and apologetic if we've offended anyone."

This line is a joke, they aren't really sorry about offending anyone. It makes the people of Vancouver look foolish though.

Blah, blah, blah. The rest of the country disses Ontario, and then specifically Toronto, because they are jealous. That LA/San Fran comment is perfect. When I first started traveling out West in the 90's, I could not believe all the Toronto bashing. And this talk of rivalry with Vancouver is only in the heads of people living in Vancouver. It's like comparing Seattle to NYC.

Don't get me wrong, Vancouver is a great city, but the T.O.-bashing? Give me a break.

I have one house in Toronto and a small condo in Vancouver where I spend 5 months per year. I grew up in small town Ontario. Everybody hates Toronto but most of it is jealousy. How come they have all those big attractions and we don't, especially if the are gov't subsidized, ROM, Art Gallery. Toronto acts as if it is sophisticated and everybody else except maybe Montreal just fell off the turnup truck.

I must say for a city 1/4 the size of Toronto, Vancouver has much better looking working girls than Toronto in huge numbers but I'm an Asian Fever type and they have great looking Chinese, Viet and K-girls up the wazoo.

I grew up in Hamilton. It was bred into you at a very early age to despise Toronto.

Trust me when I tell you that no place on Earth hates Toronto more than Hamilton. Hamiltonians call Toronto "Hogtown" because perception is that Toronto and Torontonians "Hog" all the money.

I only came here because I could not find a job in Hamilton and even then, I would commute back and forth because Hamilton was "home". I used to get into debates with an ex who was from T.O. but living in the Hammer. She liked living in T.O. better, but for one reason or another ended up living in Hamilton. I used to say that Hamilton was a better place to live then T.O. She told me I was nuts and that she was only living in Hamilton because she had to, otherwise, she'd be back in the big smoke. When I started working in T.O. I discovered that people here weren't really assholes after all. That in fact, most people did not own the Royal Bank as I had been led to believe growing up. Then, somewhere along the way, a funny thing happened. I began to like living here. (My father couldn't believe that.)

Ironically of course, it is Toronto that pays billions of taxes into the system every year that it never sees back.

You mean like Alberta?

Actually, in terms of total dollars, Toronto pays the MOST into the system that it never gets back.

However, in terms of dollars per Capita, Alberta does pay more yes.

Last I heard, the GTA paid something like 17 billion MORE into the system than it ever saw back. Imagine what kind of city we could build with that.

Can anyone say subways galore and the new Gardiner Tunnel.

The original meaning of Hogtown came from the fact that the stock yards were in Toronto and the hogs came here for slaughter but I agree with you that the meaning may have drifted over the years.

Yeah, BUT, the GTA still Pays 17 billion MORE into the system than it gets back year after year after year. Now they're just giving us back 347 million of that.

347 million / 13 million people = 26.00 per person. Wow....that ought to buy a pizza.

Of what "system" do you speak? And how do you calculate the 17 billion figure? Remember, if a company is HQed in Toronto but has operations all over the country, don't make the mistake of considering corporate taxes paid by that company as taxes "coming from" Toronto. Also remember, much tax money can be spent outside of Toronto, but for the benefit of Torontonians. For example, Canada's trade missions abroad are for the benefit of Canadian business, much of which is based in Toronto. The entire provincial highway system, with Toronto at the hub, is for Toronto's benefit, without which the flow of goods to and from Toronto would not be possible. The border control points at Windsor and Niagara Falls are not "in" Toronto, but it is through these points that Toronto-made goods are exported to the USA. I would expect that most of the commercial traffic through these crossings are headed to or from Toronto. The federal prison is in Kingston, but how many of its inmates committed crimes in Toronto? Queen's University is also in Kingston, but how many of its students are either from Toronto or will work in Toronto after graduation.

Can anyone say subways galore and the new Gardiner Tunnel.
None of which would do Toronto any good without the highways, railroads and shipping lanes that allow food, goods and materials into Toronto and allow Toronto to transport its finished wares.

Equalization payments are a joke. Ontario still pays out more than it gets back, as a province. Quebec is quickly becoming the only province for which the opposite is true, and I don't see that changing as federal politicians of all stripes try to buy votes there.
