That is more then an error, My analysis would have them IN their cruisers!
I would presume that the Toronto Police Service has a get out of the cruiser policy, I'm willing to bet that the OPP does. Really bad things can happen when someone is just sitting in the cruiser and it is hit broadside by a vehicle traveling at say 190 kh/h. Since cities such as New York have streets where this would be possible, I presume that Toronto does as well.

Lost in a daydream of beautiful women.
Probably because it wasnt your regular plower, more like a pickup truck with a plow welded on the front.

Does anyone know whats gonna happen to his wife and kid??!!
Is there a police fund set up for this type of thing that takes care of the family who's left behind??!!
They are heavily insured. When an officer dies on duty, the pay out to the family can be quite significant. NO amount of money, however, will ever compensate to the loss to his family.

They guy was not wear shoes for God's sake!! My guess it that he figured he could use the truck to ram something and get money.

So this guy is looking at:

1st degree murder (killing a cop, probably worst type of murder after a politician).
Theft of vehicle.
Wreckless driving.

I'm guessing at least 20-25 years in the bucket
He'll most likely get convicted manslaughter unless he acquires services from legal aid. I can't understand why the peace officers were firing at the suspect when he was running away unarmed ? That won't look good in court.

I'm pretty sure if I know the law correctly they can shoot to kill a suspect after he's been driving around recklessly and hit people.
Reason being he might be running home to get a gun, or maybe he even has a gun concealed he hasnt pulled out yet.

Not 100% sure though, I could be wrong on that

I heard that they were chasing him on foot unarmed but I'm not 100%. I also could be wrong.

The police are trained to fire only in self defence if threatened for their lives and not open fire because one of their colleagues went down. They also could get charged if they suspect is pronounced dead. It's sad for everyone

There's no official statement yet. The witnesses interviewed by newspapers, though, seem to think that the guy was shot while still in the cab of the plow, and had been driving it even while police were smashing the window of the plow to get him out.

Shit does happen, but considering the resources available to them, there is no need to risk yourself. I don't think this was a high risk takedown at all. The suspect had no gun, the streets were not crowded with innocent people, there was enough time to do it without elevating the risk. But of course we will have to wait for the facts.. .right now I am puzzled about how he got into a situation where he was physically exposed.
Cause the police officer was some hard ass cop in the drug and gang division and he thought tough guy him could be a hero and stop the truck. Those plows on the trucks are deadly weapons, plus the air bomb/air bags don't go off on a hit and the truck can keep on going. Why even more so those hard working guys should not have left the truck running and unlock

They did wait until an officer was hit before firing shots, in the USA the cops would had shot him dead hours earlier.

His only BS excuse is to say the truck was skidding on ice/snow and he did not mean to strike the officer.

Unm no, I'm sorry but if you're chasing a suspect who just bulldozed a cop and was driving around a stolen vehicle wrecklessly DT Toronto you have to take the fucker out and shoot him.

Besides how do you know he's not carrying a gun in his pocket while you're chasing him??!

If suspect stopped running, threw up his arms to surrender and then was executed by cops you'd have a case

What possible truth there is to the above entirely depends upon what part of the country you are speaking about. In most places, in that scenario the "cops" would be facing charges.

Not going do much for him. First, he was exhibiting reckless disregard, second, he fled the scene.

Wait a moment, I just realized something. Oh and sure I am sad for his kid but we pay cops very very very well (10% raise every year!) to be on the front lines. My question is why they are so inefficient at stopping him? He was driving around for over two hours. Try to tell me that they couldn't just box him in with their cruisers and pin him against each other to stop him?

Sounds like a FIDO moment and some cops don't like being on the front line and only have balls when it comes to beating on protesters during the G20?

They are pretty much set for life....I am sure the wife is shattered, but she will have no financial problems.

The heavy plow can drive right through a cruiser, you can't box it in with cruisers, you'll just end up with demolished cruisers and even more dead police.

What they eventually managed to do was use an armored vehicle to pin the plow to a garbage truck, at which point the guy was apparently lurching the plow back and forth when the police shot him.

getting out of the cruiser is better in a road block but you have to stand WELL BACK. you cannot presume the suspect will stop. they should have stood well to the side and been ready to shoot if he hit the cruiser...heck they should have shot the tires out right away as he approached...something they would have been in a position to do if they were off to the side...behind some parked cars or a lamp post. If he had already hit a taxi, it stands to reason the asshole was hell bent on mayhem.
