As the new NHL season approaches I have good reason to believe that this is the year the Leafs get back into the playoffs. Maybe a first round exit, but the playoffs for sure.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have some big plans for the next few years leading up to their 100th anniversary in 2017. the organization would like to host the Draft, the All-Star game and the Winter Classic outdoor game.
I knew about the Draft and outdoor game, but the All-Star game was a new one on me.
I would love to see the Leafs get all three.

Leafs 2011 season begins;
Thursday Oct 6, vs Montreal

They play five home games, before they begin their road schedule in Boston on Oct 20.

I would agree with that assessment but only if all the stars align for the Leafs. There are A LOT of question marks. Reimer has to be at least as good as he was last year...and all their new acquisitions this year needs to remain relatively healthy - which is probably the biggest question mark...

Oh Gawd!!!:frusty:
Already?
I agree. The time from here to the start of the season is more than the time elapsed since the end of the playoffs.

I guess talking about the Jets logo will only get you so far.

End of the playoffs? Yes. End of the Leafs' season? No. That was over four months ago. Check that...NINE months ago.

It would take more than the stars aligning, the Leafs may have a chance in 2012, I hear the planets are supposed to align....if we survive, we may witness the cup on in TO for more than the hall

Toronto Maple Leafs and Luke Schenn 'officially' begin contract talks.
The Leafs have over $5mil(maybe over $6mil) in cap space.

The team would like to have as much cap space as possible during the season to have the freedom to make moves.
They may have a little to a couple million in space once Schenn is signed depending on which players make the team. The Leafs currently have 15 forwards and 8(including Schenn) defence-men signed.

Leafs will make the playoffs, because Burke will not let his rep go down the toilet by missing the playoffs again. He can justifiably blame previous management for not getting in thus far...but now the team is his no more excuses.

Too late. His "rep" has been circling the toilet bowl for years now.
Let us know when it's finished circling and gone all the way down your throat.

Schenn's name is not on a contract yet. Still two weeks left though.
Well I am not concerned to this point, it is something I wish they could get out of the way.
The team does not need that distraction.

Burke is the J.P. Ricciardi of hockey, but he'll probably hang in til 2017 , when the leafs will celebrate 50 years of not winning.

Hay Ironhead, chewy here, long time in between responces.
Yup the hockey season is just around the corner and I would like to think that the Leafs will be in the playoffs this year, because if there not and Wilson is fired then Captain Arrogance of the good ship Ego aka Brian Burke should be fired as well!

Schenn is signed, camp underway.
From a Leaf fan perspective, everything looks good for a run at the playoffs here on Sept 18.
Yes, hope springs eternal.

First(preseason) game on Monday, vs the Senators, at the ACC.

Regular season starts on Oct 6. vs Montreal.

So I read the rumour that Kyle Turris may be on the Leafs radar. Turris is unsigned, 22, a center and was the third overall pick in '07.
The rumour has Bozak going the other way.
It is believed that Turris is asking in the $3 mil range.

If it were up to me, I would jump at the chance to land Turris.

Will you move your car so he can get out of his parking spot?

Just one more excuse: Ron Wilson

Turris is not worth 3 million per year, last year 11 goals 14 assists previous 8 goals 12 assists. Looks like a first round choice that isn't working out.
What's the upside? I don't see it.

What is your opinion of Bozak ?

Bozak is 25, a centre from the NCAA. He was undrafted, signed by the Leafs as a FA. He has shown that he can play in the NHL, but is not a number 1 center.

Turris is 22, a centre from the NCAA. Drafted third overall by the Coyotes in '07. Has not reached his potential, but to me has a higher upside.

I think we have seen what Bozak is. A third line player at best, likely a fourth line guy.
Turris could blossom into a solid second liner. Although I agree he may not be worth $3 mil now, I would give it to him on the condition he signs a two way, maybe $800,000 when on the Marlies and if he wants to play in the NHL he would have to play up to the $3 mil.
