If I were cabbies lawyer I'd go for the "he insulted my muslim religion" angle. Skateboarder made fun of Allah, I lost it and ran him over in a fit of rage.
He'll probably get 10 years with a sympathetic jury, serve 7 yrs with good behaviour and that'll be the end of it

I would blame it on sudden acceleration, since the cabbie in Montreal was also driving a Toyota.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand wordsSaw a report on CFTO news that had a witness describing the skateboarder coming up on the back of the car, banging aggressively on the back window of it. Said the driver seemed to want to get away from him but then swerved into him where the cab knocked down the skateboarder and ran him over.
Another report I heard said the skateboarder was earlier riding in the main lane of traffic on King St.
The report also said that Toronto By Laws state that skateboards are actually supposed to be on the SIDEWALK and NOT on the road. They are not considered vehicles as they do not have brakes.
No reason to deliberately run him over or crush the guy to death of course but FFS, do these idiots not recognize the consequences of the risks they take?

Cabbies really do drive like idiots downtown Toronto though. They make sudden U-turns, they cut you off, they swerve in and out of lanes. Its crazy
A witness reported in the National Post that the skater was hanging on to the right side of the cab near the back door, yelling and punching the cab, when the cabbie swerved towards the curb, probably trying to shake him off. Sounds like the skater got pissed off, freaked out and it just scared the cabbie,,,,i say he walks.

I was the passenger in a car with a close relative driving on the highway. For whatever the reasons, he got into it with a truck driver (one or both of them felt they cut the other off). So my relative starts playing a game of speeding past the truck, going infront of the truck, and slowing down so the truck driver has to slow down. I told my relative to either stop playing the stupid cat and mouse game or let me out of the car, because I didn't feel like dying that day.

The old sayings like "don't go to a gunfight with a knife" are applicable.

So the guy got acquitted on BS charges. Who is gonna give him the year of his life back and cover his several hundred K in legal bills? Meanwhile the former AGO did not get even CHARGED!!!! All that is known that there is a dead skateboarder and the cops have witnesses that say the cabbie ran him down and he has been charged with 2nd degree murder.
Another nobody who was charged with a ton of offences related to bomb making and branded as a terrorist was just acquitted of all charges.
As are hundreds of people every day who are not former Attorney's General.
