Some good ones on the list, but I would add the Cult Classics that were not meant to be funny but are just so bad that you can't help but laugh.
- Anything by Ed Wood (Plan 9 From Outer Space, Glen or Glenda)
- Reefer Madness

Some people already mentioned some of my faves, but here are some in no particular order:

Bambi vs. Godzilla

Young Frankenstein - the horse neighing when that woman's name was mentioned was hilarious

Airplane - everything was so hilarious. I had tears running down my face

National Lampoon's Animal House - 'nuff said

The Lonely Guy - I laughed my head off. My buddy did, too. Our lady friend thought we were nuts

Various Cheech & Chong movies - I still howl at the scene when Cheech inhaled a bag of white powder (salt) and drank apple juice (urine sample)

The Pink Panther movies - the real ones

ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES!!!!!!!!!!!

Honourable mention for the best phrase: "Gentlemen, we're got to protect our phoney baloney jobs!" (Blazing Saddles)

Wow, lots of good choices above. However, I would add:

Ruthless People - Danny Devito & Bett Midler - I've seen it many times.

Glad to see Goonies on the list - especially for the line "kids suck"

well done,

my favourites are certainly mostly interspersed amongst those lists.

Chaplin got a few mentions, but he has several films that were certainly worthy.

This means, though, giving some considertion to W.C. Fields, The Marx Brothers (I saw someone picked up on Duck Soup), Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, and we certainly shouldn't forget Abbot and Costello.

The Three Stooges. There film wasn't the stooges at their best - but it really doesn't matter. They are The Three Stooges.

Until about this time, the above lists films were viewed by both adults and kids. But for the most part, the audience was adult.

This led to the dark ages for comedy - when comedy went Disney and family oriented. Stuff like Herbie the Love Bug - watchable only with children.

Then you get Peter Sellers and a bunch of Brits inspired by the above guys, but pushing limits those above wouldn't push.

Chaplin's impersonation of Hitler becomes Sellers impersonation of a Pakistani actor in The Party.

Now missing from the list, is, once again, the foreign films. Mr. Hulot's Holiday has to be on everyone's top 10. It's influence continues right up to today (with the release of Mr. Bean's Holiday).

Don't recall seeing any Woody Allen on the lists either (I could have missed something). If I'm right, that's a gaping hole.

If you don't mind going back a few years, my favourite is The Hallelujah Train.

Burt Lancaster as the cavalry colonel. Donald Pleasance as Oracle Jones . . . "NOW ah see it!"

The wagon train of whisky never did get through to the thirsty miners in Denver, what with indians, temperance women, striking irish teamsters, etc.

As I say, my favourite.

Funniest Movie I've Ever Seen...

...and surprised it isn't mentioned here:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057193/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_a_Mad,_Mad,_Mad,_Mad_World

Many feel it is hands down the funniest movie ever made...certainly had me in stitches when I saw it for the first time.

Actually the french translation is much, much funnier than the original version. It actually is a classic. Even a cult film for some.

Slapshot always reminded me of Barrie Flyer games.

Takeshi Castle
Rodney - Caddyshack

Waiter, waiter...take this steak back to the chef, it still has the marks where the jockey whipped it.

Rodney and Ted Knight had perfect chemistry, that's what made that film so side splitting funny. Bill Murray had no lines, the director allowed him to improvise his character completely. Chevy Chase was the weak link.

Some great funny movies so far but I've always been partial to Amos & Andrew with Nic Cage, Dabney Coleman, and Samuel L. Jackson. The scene where they are driving in the cornfield and Jackson says, "Where to now Magellan?" makes me piss myself everytime. I also like another Jackson funny called Formula 51. When he poisons all those skinheads and they constantly shit themselves. Without the pun - it was funny shit.
