As to the original post: I always wonder why western media ALWAYS put the west down, and put others on a pedestal.

When I see Turkish media making Turks feel guilty of the genocides, and claiming Turkish women make bad mothers, as well as Turkish men being wimpy.

Then I will believe this is normal.
That we have an introspective and self-critical culture is a good thing. That is a key to progress.

Of course I agree with you. We are much better than Asians/Chinese. You think why they flock to North america? Because we are better
Yup gotta love how those Asians gaveus the car, Automobile, the plane, the rocket engine, Jet engine etc.

Oh wait, they only mass produce.

Germans out compete them in every way. In sports, engineering, number of geniuses, etc.

Oh and the richest man in the world is Arab. Not East Asian.

No surprise. She reaps what she sows.
You believe that death threats are appropriate period, and that in this instance in particular there is any excuse for making them?

This as we have post after post about Tucson.

Death threats are inappropriate but as mentioned, it should not come as a surprise given the toxic environment we are in.

Obviously she ignores or at best miscalculate the viscous response she is going to get by being an arrogant person, like many mainland Mandarin speaking Chinese lately when they do shopping in London, Paris.

Plus, she does not represent the Chinese. She is not Chinese enough in the first place.

Her rhetoric on the Chinese superiority on parenting does nothing to make the case. On contrary, she is very successful to incite racial hatred and bigotry towards the Chinese in North America, to whom many of them don't share her POV in any event.

Valid points, however, I still am amazed that some people are stupid enough, and unhinged enough to make death threats about this!

Despite all the protestations from "Canadian" parents, I bet there are a lot of hockey moms and dads out there who 'force' their kid to practice 3 hours or more a day, plus workouts in the gym as well as bedtime curfews - and also expect them to come home with at least a goal or assist every game. The same for figure skating. Maybe curling too.

She's right. Chinese parents are raising better children.

Canadian and American parents are way too soft on their kids, and the result is their kids do not live up to their full potential. Chinese parents have a good understanding of the value of "tough love", and the reality is, it works. Note, don't over-simplify it, I believe there is more to this than "push your kids to work hard in school". Chinese parents do mix that pressure with an absolute dedication to do whatever it is their kids need, and a clear willingness to make huge sacrifices for the benefit of their children, it's not a one-way street. The kids do know they're loved, even as they're pushed hard: Much of the kids willingness to go along with it stems from witnessing just how much their parents actually do sacrifice for them.

They have closer families with fewer problems and better educational and occupational outcomes.

Are they perfect? No. Do they have their flaws? Yes. Are they getting something right? Hell yes.

There was some controversy in California a few years back about "reverse quotas" at some of the state run universities there. Apparently they were limiting the number of asian students because if accepted on the basis of grades and extra-curricular activities they would have dominated the schools. So they started using other criteria..
That (informally) happens here as well. Ever hear the U of Waterloo being referred to as the U of Waterwoo? I know a few younger white guys that deliberately avoided the school because of that (and they had the marks to write their ticket).

I don't think anyone would argue that North American parenting tends towards the fail side of the spectrum, however surely the best would be a balance between the Chinese mommy dearest style and the treehugging hippy crap North American style.

Actually being parents, without being fascist about it.

What in blazes are you talking about? Canadian and U.S. parents raise the best computer game player kids in the world. Plus, these kids get diabetes by the time they are 40.
