Apparently, some protesters to-day were waving the Stars and Stripes and singing the Star Spangled Banner.

At first i was ok with these protest and now i am just sick of these hooligans. These kids are just destroying their city and lynching civilians. Peaceful my ass, they have no clue what they are fighting for and too stupid to understand they are being played like puppets.

What the f are you talking about, what lynching? They have very clear goals, either educate yourself or don't have an opinion.

They might think they have clear goals in their mind
but they don't have the right target. HK government are
more like civil servants hired by the PRC than political
leaders. If they are forced to concede to the
demands of the rioters they won't have
the power to carry them through.Until this
end all they can do is to hide behind the police
force. The rioters can continue with the rampage until HK
is totally paralyzed. PRC will loose face.
But the price to pay for the HK people would
be destruction of their society and their livelihood.

Nearly 50 people were killed in the 1967 riot. So
far not one rioter and police died. I am afraid this
unrest still has a long way to go.

I guess you havent seen the other side of story and what is really happening. Do yourself a favor and dig deeper into it and i dont mean youtube because alot of it is censored here in canada because they dont want you to know what is actually going on. The media makes the protestor seem like the victim which they are not! And no, im not from China. I have relatives in HK and they say more than 3/4 of residents do not agree with these protest and are affraid to speak up because these protestor will lynch and beat the shits out of you, there are tons of videos out there that will change your mind

Then fine.............the Chinese should allow the local Hong Kong people to vote for anyone that stands for election to the Legislative Council without requiring Beijing approval and without intimidation.

That's the simple response to your statement. If you think 3/4 of residents don't agree with the protesters, then a truly open election should be no issue for Beijing.

If it wasnt for Beijing, HK would be nothing! Hong Kong started booming after 97. But regardless, they still belong to china whether they like it or not, its like mother and son can not change the fact. They just dont like china people because they are discriminating.

It only takes a small proportion of the residents to revolt
over result of an open election to destroy HK. With 20%
of the population being haters of mainland Chinese HK
is a potential threat in the eyes of Beijing. Some of the
openly elected politicians already exposed themselves as
haters of PRC. There was one member who openly declared
"any oppressive regime would be overthrown by its people"
alluding to the Chinese government. Why would Beijing
want to take the risk of getting a government elected to
see the demise of the communist party as their goal?

Oops, looks like I hit a vein. Now we know where our buddy 888's heart is.

The same can be said for Western investment in China. China didn't started booming until the 90s. Things really took off after China's entry into the World Trade Organization. Of course, qualifying by adhering to the WTO rules were waived.

And the people of Hong Kong, they just don't like the Chinese Communist party.

A lot of the younger generation of the people of HK absolutely
hate the mainland Chinese people as well not just the communist
party. There is already an incident where a mainlander declaring in
Mandarin his nationality who got beaten by masked rioters.
Tourists from the China are branded as locusts by the
mainland-hating HK people.

Dude I've been living there for the past 4 years. There's no lynching. Polls show the majority of the public support the protests. Basically, it's up to the people of hk to determine their future, you and I are not stuck there and will never fully understand. But at least get the facts straight.

You're Canadian, that says it all. You will never know what is like to be stuck in a place where there's no future.

I wonder if the three hundred thousands of Canadian citizens in
HK decided there was no future in Canada before they return
to the country they fled. If future is defined as the ability to buy
a residence then there is indeed no future for the young people.

The reason why there are so many hk people with Canadian passports is simply because it's been the easiest 1st world country to immigrate to for decades.

The reason there are so many residents in HK
holding Canadian citizenship could also be because
HK is a better place for them to make a living
at least until their retirement when they would
return to reap the benefits for health care and seniors.
