On one hand, yeah. On the other hand, you don't get a liver if you're still drinking. Organ transplants are inherently not "fair", they go to the patients who will get the most benefit from them. They are a rare commodity, with a wait list. You don't have a "right" to a donation, so you play by the hospital's rules.
"I need an organ, but you can't shave my chest before surgery" - no transplant
"I need an organ, but I don't want to be sedated for surgery" - no transplant
"I need an organ, but the surgeon has to be a white male over 6' tall" - no transplant.
Faced with death, this man looked his family in the eye and said "I'm not willing to do what it takes to keep living". He died for his principals, because he was misinformed about the risks he was facing. Much more an indictment of our culture than our medical system.
