Thanks. It's definitely on my list of things to do. I always love the scenes in the movies when people are driving through the desert and staying at cheap motels and gas stations. Of course, in the movies, there's always betrayal, deception, and murder followed by a massive shootout, car chase through the desert, and big explosions! Cool!C Dick said:The drive through the Mojave from Las Vegas to LA is great, I have done it many times. Stark scenery, interesting sights. Just be careful that you do not arrive in LA at rush hour, the suburbs go on forever. You can also go via Palm Springs, it is interesting also.
I remember reading an article about this. Some guy did this, but his intent was to commit suicide. He went to one of these places, got the gun, went to the range, and shot himself. The news article went on to discuss how this could possibly be prevented, and what, if any, regulations should be placed on such places. I imagine that that was just a freak occurrence and for the most part, such ranges would be great fun. I heard that you can actually get a H&K submachine gun to shoot as well.C Dick said:When in Las Vegas with ones SO, The famous Red Rooster couples club is worth a visit, downstairs has pool, hot tub, pool tables, dance floor, sometimes live band. Upstairs is couples only. The entire place is sex permitted anywhere you want. Wife and I went into an empty bedroom upstairs and prepared to go at it. Before you know it, there are about twenty people standing around the outside of room, fully clothed, arms folded, ready to watch. If you can get hard in that situation, nothing should bother you. No pressure.
You can also go to the gun store, you walk in, state that you want to fire guns, and they give you a gun and a box of shells, and you head back to the range, no license or anything required. There is an optional lesson, and before you know it you are firing away with a 9mm or a 38 special, or 44 Magnum, or whatever. I took my secretary, she enjoyed the 44.
Yeah, I heard that the average cost is $3-400/hr, if you can negotiate. For most guys, it ends up being a lot more.C Dick said:I enjoyed the brothel in Pahrump. For hobbying it is not good value, but you can hang out in the sports bar, socialize with the ladies, watch the customers, etc., and there is no pressure to buy or anything.
Oh yeah you gotta see Wayne Newton.shack said:You forgot about the shows/live entertainment. World class.
The drive is more like 4 hours to San Bernadino and it's definitely worth driving during the day of course. If you have a rental you could even zoom through some sandy sideroads for that dust effect. Make sure tank is full and you got plenty of water.baltimoron said:I may also drive to LA to/from there, but I'm concerned about driving 6 hours through the Mojave Desert. Has anyone done this before? How is the drive, if anyone knows?
I must be missing something. Done the LA to LV and LV to SF about dozen times. The only thing interesting along the way was checking out the Blonde Hollywood-want-to-be @ Barstow Factory outlet. And many signs remind you not to fall asleep while driving as you leave LV with your wallet a lot lighter. Oh, make sure you've lots of fuel as its a long walk.C Dick said:The drive through the Mojave from Las Vegas to LA is great, I have done it many times. Stark scenery, interesting sights. I didn't say every show is great but there's enough variety that most people can find some good entertainment.WhaWhaWha said:Oh yeah you gotta see Wayne Newton.
