I don't know if Trump really meant by heart what he said during his
campaign. If there is anything that speaks of his character and intellect I
can think of two: a) Trump is one of the least charitable billionaire in the
U.S. b) Trump is a big pro-wrestling fan as well a member of Celebrity
Hall of Fame of WWE/WWF We all know what intelligence it takes to
appreciate pro-wrestling. Though I must admit I used to like old-time
Australian Wrestling (from the days of Tiger Jeet Singh and Mario
Milano) myself.

PA, climate change is a proven thing whether or not you like it. The facts are the facts and don't change just because a buffoon won the election.

Trump's ability to do damage is somewhat limited by Congress on domestic issues, but there are several ways he can do real harm:

1. He can indeed fuck up progress on climate change which in turn WILL fuck up a lot of stuff, even if you want to shove your head in the sand and ignore it

2. He can totally fuck up trade and start a losing trade war with China

3. He can get abortion outlawed in the US

Other things he is limited by the more reasonable voices in Congress and the Senate (even Republican they are more reasonable than Trump).

For example for the wall, it's a pointless and exorbitant boondoggle. I don't see Congress going along. Mexico isn't going to pay and Congress isn't going to either.
He can't outlaw abortion, he could potentially appoint conservative justices that could potentially accept a case that could potentially rule on some form of abortion restriction....

Saw this on Twitter. Same theory. I'm undecided and don't normally follow politics so I'll just leave this here.

Can't agree with that as appealing to racists did not get him the win. The vast majority who voted for him are not racist, to label a broad segment of the US as racist is foolish and just plain incorrect. Trump is not racist, he employs people of all races and faiths and his employees love him. The liberals big mistake was mocking and calling the other side names and slinging false accusations. The right went mostly silent and laid in the grass waiting for their chance to show their feelings with their vote. And did they ever ..... all the blue collar workers who lost jobs due to "fair trade" agreements came out and supported someone who actually gave a fuck about them. Liberals would be wise to understand that they caused Trump's win more so than anything Trump did.

I think the OP makes a lot of good points in that a lot of what he said, and I agree that Trump is not a "classic" Republican. The party lines have blurred somewhat over the years but some of the core values Trump does stand for. No President has ever been able to live up to all of his promises but I think Trump will make good on a lot of his key running points. Acknowledging that there are some good parts of Obamacare is not backtracking, it's being realistic. Most any failed policy has some good elements, utilizing them and revamping the rest is just plain smart. Whether it is repealed (he did not rule that out) or revised, Obamacare as we know it will be dead. And that's a good thing. Even Hillary admitted that, not that her opinion really mattered to me.

I don't think anyone will be lynching Trump, I am one that believes when he says he loves his country and wants to make it great. Which is kind of what OP said, but with that caveat attached. Both parties will have things they don't like, that is the way it always goes. But if Trump does what he does best ..... hire good people to help him run things (which has always included women and minorities of all faiths), broker deals with opposition to get the important things done ..... then I think a lot of people upset right now will look at things differently.

Then you'll have people like fuji who will simply find fault with every thing he does, even if it makes his life better. But the world needs these kind of people too, I'm not sure why but they must serve SOME sort of purpose :)

I have a theory that Donald Trump is not who he says he is (which is a good thing).
That toxic rhetoric he's been spewing out for the past 18 months may have been just for show to appeal to his identified masses just to get votes.
His victory speech was very humble and conciliatory towards the President and Secretary.
Did you know that Bill and Hillary had attended his wedding?
Donald wanted to promote himself as anti establishment, as an outsider which he is but he still mingles with the elite.
There's already segments from an interview where he is now changing his tune and may not repeal Obamacare but may amend certain laws of it.
I think he really is a true Independant and the most liberal of the Republicans. He's been known to switch sides several times in the last fifteen years.
Let's hope that his victory speech is more telling of his true values. If anything, he would have pulled the wools over those republican masses and he's really a democrat in republican clothing.
Profile wise, popularity is very important to him. Status and being part of the establishment and succeeding in it is the lifebread of his persona and brand. And considering how competitive he is, he has every motivation to really be the most successful president in history which is a goal that would be more expected of him then someone willing to be the most hated.
I think those republican masses are going to end up lynching him once he starts breaking his campaign promises. Which is a good thing.
He's exactly who he says he is but he's also a pragmatist, and knows how to gin up enthusiasm with and without controversy.

His stance on illegal immigration and trade have not changed in decades.

You will see his presidency do many of the things he campaign about. He will indeed repeal Obamacare (saying he may keep certain types of coverage is not the same as changing his tune), renegotiate NAFTA (this wasn't even something anybody considered until he made it a topic), stem illegal immigration (in a material way), halt inflow of third world refugees, lower taxes significantly, rebuild infrastructure.

His position on many issues were initially very unpopular with the media and experts but he stuck with them because he was smart enough to know that his stance was right, and that it would appeal to working class people regardless of how the media portrayed it. So yes popularity is important to him but taking the right side on an issue is equally important to him.

The stupidity and double standard from the Left is numbing.

"The Left doesn't take Trump seriously, but they take him literally [clinging to every word], while voters take him seriously but not literally."

That's the short explanation for why he won and the media and Left have been so dazed and confused.

The left just eat up any lie they find on the internet and then run with it and then all their lefty friends follow along, willingly and blindly. Numbing is a great way to put it when you add it all up together.

In news that matters - Within 2 days of Trumps election

-Syrian Pres. Assad calls for cooperation with the United States.

-Russian Pres. Putin says Russia is ready to restore relations with the United States, preventing the second cold war from starting.

-Mexico and Canada agree to cooperate with pre elect Trump and renegotiate or scrap NAFTA

- Dow Jones industrial stock index reaches an all-time high.

- WH abandons TPP and TTIP

Everybody wants peace, except for the left.

Which is why Trump is going to allow another housing collapse (The Big Short movie) where the wall street elites make tone of $$$$$ and thank Trump. All these rednecks who voted for him are losing there trailer homes.

Like a New Years resolution. They all say that with every newly elected President. Syrians are Muslims right? Trump doesn't want their refugees. So who are you kidding here.

One of the first rules for surviving autocrats is you have to believe the leader.

Rule #1: Believe the autocrat. He means what he says. Whenever you find yourself thinking, or hear others claiming, that he is exaggerating, that is our innate tendency to reach for a rationalization. This will happen often: humans seem to have evolved to practice denial when confronted publicly with the unacceptable. Back in the 1930s, The New York Times assured its readers that Hitler’s anti-Semitism was all posture. More recently, the same newspaper made a telling choice between two statements made by Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov following a police crackdown on protesters in Moscow: “The police acted mildly—I would have liked them to act more harshly” rather than those protesters’ “liver should have been spread all over the pavement.” Perhaps the journalists could not believe their ears. But they should—both in the Russian case, and in the American one. For all the admiration Trump has expressed for Putin, the two men are very different; if anything, there is even more reason to listen to everything Trump has said. He has no political establishment into which to fold himself following the campaign, and therefore no reason to shed his campaign rhetoric. On the contrary: it is now the establishment that is rushing to accommodate him—from the president, who met with him at the White House on Thursday, to the leaders of the Republican Party, who are discarding their long-held scruples to embrace his radical positions.

Silly except for the part where about the New York Times. They got it wrong in 2016, just they were wrong in the 1930s. Their profits are down 95%. Good riddance.
Trump attacks on the media may end up with a press like Turkey now has.
Be careful what you wish for.

What's the press like in Turkey? Are they biased like the one in the US?

An antagonistic relationship with the media in the US does not result in the kind of nightmare scenario that emotional Leftists like you are so afraid of.

There are too many boogeymen in your life. Trump is actually Hitler incarnate. Voters who disagree with you are actually undercover KKK members. I'm surprised you're not out protesting with those kids in the streets.

I expect Trump to make the US less democratic over the next four years. He is an egotistical person who does not believe that he should be accountable. He will abuse executive power and make America less democratic.

He won't turn America into a dictatorship, but he will incrementally weaken democracy.

Breaking news for you, all press and all people have biases. People only complain when it disagrees with their bias.

And yes, Erdogan has used the excuse of a conspiracy against him to shut down numerous press outlets.

That's exactly the kind of talk Erdogan used before he attacked the media.
Thanks for making my point.
