Question: Where's all the money for these TERBite proposed new and extended subway lines going to come from?

At approximately $250-350 million per kilometre, it adds up quickly and no level of government is willing to pony up the cash.
Tax gasoline so it's $10/litre, make the TTC free.

That would increase ridership more than anything else would. But it would be considered racist, so it is not acceptable.
I actually saw a female street car driver Lysol down a seat where a homeless dude sat on Queen East at the first light after he got off. (Heck she even used hand squeeze not aerosol Lysol.) The passengers actually clapped.

8. Create zones which means depending on the zone that you travel to it can cost you more $$$ (ie travelling from Greenwood to Kipling as opposed to Eglinton West to Spadina)
This is unfair to those living close to the poverty line who live in Scarborough and work in Etobicoke.
Unfair? It's already unfair to those living close to the poverty line who live in Scarborough and work in Scarborough...

Expel pigs from buses and trains.

Some buses are disgusting, people just leave behind their trash. Like half filled coffe cups. Fucking pigs.

$10 per litre might be a little harsh. But if you added just $1 per litre in Ontario, it might generate $1,000,0000,000 per month? Based on 5,000,000 people using 200 litres per month each. Which would be more than enough to make it free, and also build 10km or so of track per year. And it would likely be good for road congestion also.

We don't have the population density to support a subway to Richmond Hill. People are way to spread out to make it usable for enough.

Sheppard ave didn't have the density either when they started the subway there.

Eliminate the Transport Trucks from the 400 series of Highways so I don't have to bitch and moan about all the transports from Quebec and the East Coast driving to the US on the 401 during rush hour. How many times have you been stuck in traffic and see 3 out of 4 lanes just filled with trucks for as long as the eye can see? Just reduces the 401 to 1 lane going each way!!!

I already pay a licencing fee, regristration for my plates and a city of Toronto renewal fee for my plates each year, plus the god dammed GAS Tax... ENOUGH... You want public transit... pay for it... or walk....

Eliminate the bus drivers by letting the passenger's take turn driving the bus!!!

She broke union rules by taking work away from maintenance and risked suspension. Love those unions

Zone fares are a needed unpgrade for the TTC the same price to go from Eglinton to Lawrence on the subway as it is to go from Toronto Zoo to Longpoint? Hard sell .

The Sheppard Subway should not have been built but it was the only street Mel could sell increased densities on both sides of. It is there now so it should be extended to at least Scarborough Town Center and west out towards York University. With north south links it would at least start to provide service that most people can conveniently use. Surface transit on Eglinto s silly stickly from a transit point of view, think St Clair with 20 times the budget to go over on. If you are going to build something through the center of the city it should be a subway. That is speaking from a people moving point of view. Other adjendas have other reasons
Like most of the suggestions, the Eglinton line is not new. In fact it was being dug until Mike Haris ordered it filled in. Only an idiot would deny that cities work only when people can get around in them, and that mass transit, by the very definition of the words, is the best way to move the most folks fastest and farthest.

Paying for it is the problem, not where to put it. Tax and spend builds the roads freeloading cars drive on; it takes tax and spend to build transit, just like anything else we want.

The idea that a society can have anything without it is the most juvenile sort of magical thinking.

I think what's really important for TTC & GO is the availability, safety and free parking spots.

Most of the car commuting are from 905 area. And, I know from experience, that if you're late by a minute you won't be able to get a parking spot, so the only real option is to just drive downtown (since the cost will work out the same).
Also, it'd be nice if the security was better for the TTC & GO lots, as we've heard all the horror stories of theft.

"Tax and spend builds the roads freeloading cars drive on"

I pay for my car, my gas, my insurance and my maintenance. I pay a GAS tax, Plates and a bloody fee to the City of Toronto for the being foolish enough to live here and drive a car. Not to mention my property taxes. So buddy I aint no free loader. I donèt take public transit because it doesnt take me where I need to go. My taxes pay for the roads, and public transit. Your TTC fare pays for almost the cost of your ride and nothing else.

Subways are the easiest way to move a lot of people and they free up the roads for me. I say build them.

I'm happy any day the TTC can get me to work on time, without the service breaking down, etc. I wish timely service wasn't such a rare event.

if escort agencies donated a million one-hour appointments, we would have had a kilometre of subway
