Imho E4 is the strongest, epic battle between Harmon and young Girev. Kasparov and American Master Bruce Pandolfini set up the game. ATJ was encouraged to go off script and ad-lib the game.

Girev was exceptionally well played by Andy Serkis's son Louis Ashbourne Serkis. He has a career ahead of him.

I agree, young Mr. Serkis was excellent. Sometimes child actors have great careers ahead of them, witness Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played Bennie in The Queen’s Gambit. He was the young son of Liam Neeson in Love, Actually, who had a crush on his older schoolmate.

Andy Serkis seems like a cool dad to have, Venom 2 will be his 4th directing credit and his biggest challenge yet.

The film has been pushed back to the weekend before Canada Day. Sony must have confidence in the film this time around. They thought the first film was going to bomb and it made a profit $500+ million. Woody Harrelson plays Carnage.

Louis Serkis (16) is two years older than Louis Hardy.

Imho the highlight of The Queen's Gambit. Had the game gone on it's initial course, Girev would have won the game. He used Beth Harmon's resentment of him against her. ATJ is eight years older than Louis Serkis.

Star Trekiscovery got destroyed by The Queen's Gambit. People are fed up with PC dogma. A bitter lesson to be learned, to create a female protagonist, you have to make her compelling and most of all human. Star Trek may be in even worse shape than Star Wars, time to give the franchise a rest.

Great series with only one noticeable potential blooper. Throughout the show, Borgov only speaks Russian, has an interpreter for all interviews. HIs final sentences, when the game is over, are in almost perfect English.

How is that a blooper? We don't know he doesn't speak English. He was a highly educated Soviet athlete. Learning English would make sense.

I haven't seen The Queen's Gambit yet, but from what I've read and heard about it, I think anyone who enjoyed it would also like The Queen of Katwe.
It played at TIFF a few years ago and is now on Netflix.
An excellent film based on a true story.

A talent like Anya Taylor Joy comes around once every decade. It's just not how she emotes, it's also how she moves. As an Argie she must have grown up kicking a football around. She also has incredible poise for someone of just 24 years. Never saw her before The Queen's gambit, looking forward to seeing her in Peaky Blinders.

The 2020's will be dominated by ATJ and Florence Pugh, separated by months in age. FP is different, she uses her awkwardness as a strength, she's a female Dustin Hoffman.

His prerogative as a Grandmaster is to speak in the language he's most comfortable in. I'm streaming S5 of Peaky Blinders soon. After S4 I figured Michael would be raking in the mullah as Blinders liason to The Outfit, I'm also expecting that he'll lose his head to a vamp.

Actors become less interesting when the big pay cheques start coming in, after The Queen's Gambit, it will be interesting to see what kind of choices Anya Taylor Joy makes. There are exceptions, Viggo Mortensen and Daniel Radcliffe took profit sharing deals from their respective franchises. Radcliffe's parents are the polar opposites of Lindsey Lohan's degenerates. His mother is an acountant, she established a trust fund for Daniel based on earnings from Harry Potter 3 onward. The end result, both actors have the financial freedom to make the films they like in lieu of contract. Tom Hardy negotiated the same type of contract for the Venom franchise, his base salary was $7 million but it's not known how much he made from the $500+ million profit the film made.
