The pan handlers have new signs one ladies sign says "ran away from domestic abuse looking for shelter and food-shelters full"
the next pandhandlers sign says "im a cancer patient and getting no assistance yet" could you spare some change

theft is on the rise....the people that are struggling are also vandalizing disgusted at how they didnt make the help line

then you have the greedy landlords taking a 1000 rent and jacking it up to 2400 for some causing so much homelessness

now businesses like banks cant leave doors open for ATMS because the homeless sleep in them

Why arent we building more shelters ....why are we turning our back on people? why do most not care about these people?

isnt it true everybody is a somebody?

and this article rings true to every city ive been in

Is there anything people ( mainly those on the left) don’t want to throw $$ at? You all must think fairy dust and farts produces $$.

Let’s run a shopping list of all your wants shall we.
- Far more LTCs plus all the staff and equipment required.

-Far more GPs, Nurses, surgeons, specialist, new and updated equipment.

-Dental care

-all kinds of green stuff, without the green stuff to pay for it.

-far more public transit that only benefits those in cities

-More shelters for those without homes and good jobs.

-and on and on.

Want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want

And yet you can’t grasp why the middle class is disappearing, why middle class jobs are disappearing, and why companies flee to greener pastures, or don’t expand/invest here, why the middle class can’t save. You can’t grasp what happens when taxes up go up, but wages don’t ( stagnant to inflation).

Yiu whine and whine about the 1% and yet when stats very clearly show, it’s the well off ( the 20% club) that’s distancing themselves. Because they want to be in the 10% club….maybe because that’s you??? you ignore that like you ignore the have nots. See Ontario 2003-2017..

You also likely can’t do basic math, with regards to sin taxes be it gas or carbon, booze or sales taxes. And how those kinds of taxes hammer the have nots because they don’t have DISPOSABLE INCOME. So they ( those kinds of taxes/fees) take a disproportionate amount of discretionary $$ compared to the well off.

You can’t grasp why those who can’t save ( DISPOSABLE INCOME ) don’t have $$ to avoid taxes, like the 20% club who sock $$ away in RSPs, TFSAs, RESPs and more… so guess who gets screwed….again..

You complain about rising crime and socioeconomics yet don’t want more policing. You complain about tough times, but don’t want more jobs, especially for the have nots you continually throw under the bus. In fact you often make fun of them and blue collar workers ( just dumb uneducated rednecks and truckers).

You complain about the right but can’t grasp both the left and right have spent about the same amount of time in power while the middle class has been driven to its knees. Taking blows to the chin from both the L and R. Nor apparently grasp that after 7 years of JT and friends, will you accept that the wealth gap, is growing at record speed….

It’s them, not us.

Approximately 50% of shelter space is now taken up by refugees. Which means the shortage is a direct result of Federal policy allowing more and not supplying the infrastructure to handle them. A good portion of the Niagara motels are now refugee enclaves.

And thats just Golden Horseshoe.

See above. As well, you can add on AirBNB as a factor in affordable housing. Then there is the type of housing being built. Little starter housing type places with minimal footprint and too many upgrade type homes.

Next just add in regular immigration, to an average of 100-150,000 new residents coming to Toronto every year. Then the fact we have run out of land to build on so now we must build up. While maintaining land designated for businesses only.

There are so many factors I'm sure beyonf what I said. But no quick fix, only slow long term planning and hopefully some innovation and zoning changes to add housing stock.

I have called it the "Manhattanization of Toronto". We are now the clear 3rd largest city in NA. And growing. Expensive will now be the rule.

Here's an unpopular idea, build 1000 bed mental and drug rehab regional hospital centres. Revamp the Mental Heath Act to address chronic drug addiction. Reinstitute vagrancy laws. Remove Narcan (Naloxone) from the street level and back to hospitals and trained first responders. Build integrated subsidized housing. Landlord Tenant Board needs to be hitting targets for 3 months from filing to resolution along with potential prison time for abusive landlords or tenants (who owe over 10000 in rent). Just spitballing some ideas to explore for folks tired of living in zombie cities.

Do you think helping the homeless and the poor is a bad thing? Or are you in the camp that thinks the way to help the poor is to cut taxes for the rich.

I agree that there has been a lot of wasteful spending to help the poor etc but just because there has been some waste does not mean that it has all been wasted.s

there has been poor people since word go. you will not ever fix this as it is embedded in human nature
Most, not all, but most poor people are poor because of decisions they have made in life

eliminating the waste & reducing the dependency on government would lead to better decision making and the assumption of responsibility for ones own decision making

So refreshing to see there are people on Terb who are actually intelligent and understand real life!

There is hope for a country without the toxic Left.
Unless Ai takes over there will always be people who are more intelligent than others and have a firmer grip on reality than others.

Well I agree that there is a lot of blame going around. I also agree with wages being stagnant as opposed to inflation and prices.

However, what are you suggesting though? What are you suggesting the government or the people do, to course correct?

Reducing immigration will not fix Canadian issues because they were not created by immigrants or by immigration.

I pity you if you think Larue knows anything about whatever topic he is talking about. He should rename himself, John Snow because "You don't know nothing John Snow!!". 😂
not sure what you mean by “ as opposed to inflation and prices Kautilya. It’s statistical fact that wages have been stagnant to inflation for a long long time. Almost certainly will be forever. A little inflation is a good thing, and wages are a driver of inflation…higher wages = more spending = more demand… so what happens when wages are stagnant but taxes go up……can you say less pocket change? Aka disposable income, ( do some math…if tax on gas is 50%) and two people have the same gas budget. Say $5,000/year..so 2,500 in tax. What is 2500 of 100,000 and 2,500/of 50,000. Who is getting bent? You?

to either help grow an economy or save…why do you think Wynne wanted to create ORPP. Because the middle class can save?

As far as suggestions go. Why dont you and others start with live within your means….stop wanting wanting wanting.

As for rest or some other you presumably disagree with? Your allowed to, however math and. stats tell the tale.. its the 20% club…that means you…see how various taxes screw them, while you get a ton of tax breaks. Btw who do you thinking is spending these days…and Helping to drive inflation…..the people having trouble putting food on the table, paying bills like Hydro/heat/rent?
