Of course this is Part of Confederation 150, and Canadian troops will be alternating as the Queens Guard through 3 July. By the way today's Captain of the Guard was Captain Megan Couto who not only is but 24, but this is I believe the first time a woman has commanded the Queen's/King's Guard.

The light grey facings must be unique for a redcoated regiment.

Malata, because PPCLI is not a Guards Regiment but regular line infantry. Both the Governor General's Foot Guards and the Canadian Grenadier Guards wear bearskins in full dress.

Of course you can also see why in the day they wore beaskins, the Coldstream Guards Major is taller than Captain Couto, but with the bearskin he towers over her which of course was the very idea.

I'm a bit surprised, but I believe that you are entirely correct!

The only regiments I can find that even had grey facings were the 24th and 25th Light Dragoons, but they both had blue uniforms.

They were both very short lived units, raised for only a few years in the crisis of the Napoleonic Wars. I believe the grey facings were only in place from 1812 until the regiments were disbanded in 1815 and may well never have been issued.

I wonder if the Pats were issued some kind of khaki variant full dress before getting the more normal red?

PPCLI have what must surely be the world's greatest mélange march: Has Anyone Seen the Colonel, Tipperary, and Mademoiselle from Armentières.

Also, their former Colonel-in-Chief Countess Mountbatten of Burma died this past week.

Finally those with Nova Scotia connections may know Princess Patricia married Rear Admiral Sir Alexander Ramsay, RN, third son of the 13th Earl of Dalhousie.

Normally these days their uniforms are the typical Canadian Army Green as in this Burial Party for the Funeral of Countess Mountbatten today.

The Pats were specially raised in 1914 as a BRITISH regiment and were given to the Canadian Army some time after they were formed. As such, they may not have been issued with red dress uniforms until several years after they were formed. I note that the wiki article references their "French Grey" divisional patch. Perhaps this is the source of their French Grey facings colours.

The flag is that of the Regimental Colours that are one of two standards of a regiment, the other being their Battle Honours.

Why is that old slut getting a pay raise of 8% courtesy of the British Tax payer? She's worth $115 Billion, I'd be going ballistic over that.

Shouldn't that money be going into insuring that no more Grenfells happen?

^ The money can only in the most indirect of ways possibly be considered tax money. The increase in the Sovereign Grant (which is only part of the revenue of the Crown Estate) is due to the record income for the Crown Estate the vast majority of which goes to the Treasury to pay for things such as retrofitting high rise public housing.

Hence your argument is like your complaining about how awful it is that that your tax money was giving foresters a raise, if we had a system where the salaries of Provincial Foresters were paid from part of the revenue received from the lease of timber rights on Crown Lands.

Awesome. I speculate if PETA will ever agree, in wearing one of these majestic headgear on.

Royalty and religion are the bane of humanity. Archaic institutions.

After Brexit, Britain will no longer be able to keep these degenerates in ermine. Give the Crown estate back to the people.
