No, it is not because he smoked hemp. Smoking hemp will not get you stoned. Hemp and cannabis are related but not the same plant.
I think he just got fired from doing the Aflac duck voice for saying the Japanese deserved the tsunami disaster.

So, it's not that he owned slaves, and it's not that he smoked hemp/cannabis. I think we need a CLUE as to what this other thing is, that you have in mind. Perhaps tell us whether it is more heinous than owning slaves (what could be more heinous than owning slaves that was legal then and illegal now?) Is it less heinous than smoking pot (what could be there that's less heinous than smoking pot?) Or is it worse than smoking pot but not so bad as owning slaves?What activity did Benjamin Franklin do in his time that he could be arrested and be put in prison for today in the U.S.?
OK, I will give you a hint.
It does not compare to owning slaves. It was not a crime at the time and only made a crime much later. I am guessing it was not a crime until much later than 1900.
