Freddie was portrayed by Carl Switzer who earlier was a child actor that played "Alfalfa" in the Little Rascals.

After leaving acting, Switzer tried his hand at farming. Although he was born in a rural community, he spent most of his formative years in Hollywood portraying "Alfalfa" on the "Little Rascals", so he knew very little of farming and farm equipment. One day, while out in his fields, the harvester he was driving developed mechanical problems. Switzers knew only how to look up the tailpipe; sadly, the tailpipe of the harvester was different from the gag tailpipes he would put his eye to in the comedy series, so rather than leaving a black sooty ring around his eye, the harvester tailpipe backfired, and the force of it caused massive brain hemmoraging. Carl Switzer died behind the tailpipe of his harvester, ironically, in a field of alfalfa.
