Apollo that's the 12th Cylon.
I thought the same thing...also his wanting to go into politics.

I also thing that with the religious themes...less could be more.

Good episode though. I've been watching this show since the only way you could get it was by download. I believe it was aired in Britain first as a test market? Anyway, been hooked since the pilot movies. I too am glad they're ending the series in the fourth year. The show lost it's way a bit in the third season...I thought. Rather than feature movie spin offs, I'd like to see them keep the television format and maybe one or two two-hour installments per year.

I watched the "specials" last night prior to the season opener and while the writers think that the "soap opera" format is appealing, that is one of the things that is really starting to move me away from this series. I can understand a little backstory, and some personal stories being told, but frankly it's becoming more that than a group of people trying to find earth....

I mean, if I wanted to watch All My Children or General Hospital then I'd tune in a lot earlier.......

BTW: I think that scene with Sol shooting Adama in the eye was THIS close to Jumping the Shark.....I expect a lot more crap like that....if anyone remembers Dallas that reminded me of (whoever it was) waking up and it was all a dream......

Sol is so afraid that he will act like the old Boomer...it's consuming him. This internal conflict may be the cause of his drinking problem. He even mentioned it in the scene where the Four met in this most recent episode...."Boomer didn't know she was a Cylon..."...unspoken was the fear he was no longer in control of his own mind and personality.

That's fine, but the real issue is what are these 4's missions? If they are going to use this "look at what I can do as a writer..." BS then, IMO, they have diminished the quality of the show.

I was reading a book by stephen king on writing in his genre and he wrote something that has stuck with me these past 20 yrs: The difference between a good writer and a great writer is a good writer will write something in a story which says "hey, look, aren't I a great writer"?? and brings you out of the story. A great writer will draw you in so far that you will forget you're reading a story. IMO this is what they did with that shooting scene. Cheap......Kind of like: haha made ya look! neener neener neener.....

Oh you are missing out. I strongly recommend the new Battlestar Galactica. At least before they "jumped" up a year on New Caprica (a dumb move by Ronald Moore, having to go back to "Razor" to soften the blow, IMHO).

It's a good show but to say the best?

Don't get me wrong I've watched s1 and s2 and I enjoyed it but I think it's a bold statement to say that.

Of course everyone is entitle to their own tastes.

I've always found Starbuck and Adama to be stiff actors. Most of the actors are more attractive then they are talented.

The pacing is very similar to an early Harry Potter novel (first 2 books never read any further)..... introduce a problem then a solution and the cycle continues. Oh yeah I didn't like HP so it's not a complement.

I might pick Sopranos for acting, Dexter for originality, The Office for humour and the Wire for complexity. I would give BSG the nod for production value/effects but Rome is pretty darn good in that respect as well.

Episode 2, Season 4

This episode has opened up a real "can of worms" in my mind concerning Cylon society, and their creation.

Other than knowing that the Cylons "were created by man" and they rebelled, how did they logistically break away and form their own society? How do they manufacture themselves? How do they manufacture and sustain their infrastructure? Did they steal ships and technology from the Colonials? How did they build their base ships? How do they build the Raiders and the Centurions? Where were they in the 40 years between the 1st Cylon rebellion and the attack on the Colonies? Do they have a planet they call their own? I own all three seasons on DVD, and I have watched them all at least 3 times, and I can't recall any answers to my questions.

Man created the Cylons. They were purely a mechanical creature. After the 1st Cylon rebellion, why and who created the humanoid Cylons?(I just love the slang term "skin jobs" BTW). Did the Cylons take, or,did their human creators go with them to continue improving the model(s)? We know that Cylons were never created in human form before the 1st Cylon war, because of the revelation around episode 3 of Season 1 that "Cylons look like us!!!".

It now appears that Cylon society is a "class" orientated society. The Raiders and the Centurions are the "worker bees", and the "skin jobs" are the ruling class, and their is even class distinctions between them. The statement "nobody has ever voted against their own model before" is particulary telling. It's obvious Cylons do not hold democratic elections, but some Cylons feel they have the right to lead and make decisions that affect the rest of society. This culminates in the decision to alter the programming of the Raiders to ignore any signal that the Final Five might be part of the human fleet. Then "Six" alters the programming of two (or more possibly)of the Centurions, making them self-aware. Now being self aware, they surely will not allow themselves to be changed back. I now see the beginings of a class or civil war among the Cylons, possibly diverting them from their primary objective of eliminating all humans and find Earth for themselves.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. The 12th Cylon is actually the creater of the Cylons, and is, or was human. Possibly he or she transferred their "soul" into a mechanical body before they died, or even a humanoid equivalent. This character will not be anybody we've seen before, but will be revealed in flashbacks this season.

Hey CL: you miss a very important part: the hybrid. There was a scene last night where it was vomiting phylosophy.....

They haven't gone into too much detail as to how the cylons evolved but it isn't a far stretch to say they became self aware and then worked to develope better models. This concept has been used in hundreds of other future scenarios as seen in I Robot, The Terminator Series of Movies, Short Circuit, etc etc. Even Star Trek featured one episode where simple maintenance robots wouldn't go into an area to complete repairs because it knew that it was dangerous and probably wouldn't survive. Once you program a CPU to be able to problem solve, or me autonomous then it isn't a far leap to being self aware.

I think CL has brought up a really good basis for a future BSG "feature" (Kind of like "Razor" was). The past developement of the cylons before the second war.....

For the record: Last season Adama encountered humans captured by the cylons and were being experimented on (flashback to the first cylon war). That is how they developed the skin jobs....

BTW: after last night's episode I think we have an inkling of how the series will end: civil war among the cylons and some of the advanced skin jobs (which was taken directly from the movie Bladerunner I might add) joining with the humans to find earth. I kind of wonder however to what purpose did the centurions think they'd serve by killing those on the council. I mean, they were immediately downloaded to new models back on the resurrection ship so killing them did nothing except provoke them.

You've brought up some very good points. My reply.

Hey CL: you miss a very important part: the hybrid. There was a scene last night where it was vomiting phylosophy.....

I think the hybrids are a red herring as far as plot development goes. They've been driven mad by the job they have to do.Although...what do you think of this idea...? They hybrids are actually the human creators of the Cylons.

I think it must have been the human creator(s) that gave them self awareness and sense of self. I don't think they (the Cylons) developed it on their own

I think CL has brought up a really good basis for a future BSG "feature" (Kind of like "Razor" was). The past developement of the cylons before the second war.....

I believe this idea has already been given the green light, and will be a series known as "Caprica"

For the record: Last season Adama encountered humans captured by the cylons and were being experimented on (flashback to the first cylon war). That is how they developed the skin jobs....

maybe.

Very possible. The Cylons are now the dominating society, but may very well destroy themselve by infighting. They will certainly lose direction and purpose, and some may very well join with the humans to avoid being "deactivated". As far as the Centurions killing the members of the council, perhaps "Six" arranged for the resurrection ship to be out of range for a "download", as she would have know that. I'm sure it will be explained in Episode 3. Or not...lol....

Hmmm wouldn't it have been easier (although less dramatic) to just walk up to them and slap em upside the head? lol

Especially if they don't die right away. Remember the episode on Caprica where the colonists were rounded up to be shot, and then the insurgents ambushed the Cylons, and the Cylon played by Dean Stockwell (#3?) complained later that he lay there for hours before finally finding something to slit his throat with and die?.

I can't dispute the married part, but why do you say she's half brain dead?

I'm not saying it isn't true -- I honestly don't know one way or the other -- but I'm curious why you say this.

They do have to get from the Resurrection Ship back to whatever Basestar they were on. Presumably they have a few centurions guarding the airlock / door to get back in.

In any case, the last episode was interesting. The Cylons lobotomizing the worker bees was a curious parallel - humans created the Cylons (as worker bees) who then revolted. Now worker bee Cylons are revolting against other Cylons who created them.

I guess in this season we'll likely see that Cylons and humans aren't really so different after all; Cylons have real emotions, they have faults just like humans ...
