Whereever I am now
The Senators have always started well and faded in the playoffs .. (ask any leafs fan)

Maybe the senators will heat up going into the playoffs (and be "underdogs")
we shall see

All I ask is a legit playoff run. Currently Toronto and especially Anaheim are doing very well. But of the ones coming out of the gate hard, I can only see Buffalo keeping it up.
The Sabres have shown much character fighting back from deficits to win.

Sens lose another, as does Philly. Come on Alfie or Forsberg. Either would be the depth addition I'd like to see in Toronto. Mogilny's point production was never properly replaced.
The Leafs are so lucky to have such a devoted fan in you. They have been impressive so far, being the only team that beats the Sabres. The good doc can see them going to playoffs this season even without Aflie or Forsberg. Just borrow the Sabres' winning formula via 'Scoring By Committee'. Even players (Mair, Gaustad) not known for scoring are doing so. Pretty soon it will be the enforcer Peters' turn. LOL!!!

The experience last season left the Sabres hungry for more. They decided early on this season they will go all the way this time around. Perhaps the Leafs are thinking the same, sweetie??? As for the 'powerhouse' Senators, shall we just keep them sleepwalking this entire season??? *Wink, wink.* LOL!!!

The Senators Become Alive Again!!!

The Senators were desperate for a win and they got it, except at the expense of the Sabres. Buffalo did not match Ottawa's' desperation and intensity level and let this one got away 4 to 2. Still, aside from the funny empty net goal, the game was very close. To see two very fast skating club going against each other was very entertaining indeed. They shall meet in Ottawa three days from now. It will be interesting to see who wants to win more then.

in all fairness, the Sabres did appear tired and slower than normal for the season.

LOL!!! There are a number of reasons that the Sabres appear tired and slower than usual. First of all, it has something to do with the crazy NHL schedule, the Sabres have to play ten games over a period of 16 days from November 10 to November 26. Second, they are confronted with significant injury problems, with their top goalie out, their top defense pair out, their top scorer out, and of course Connolly on injury reserve. Third, they are only human and no human is perfect.

The only thing good from all these is that they can test their depth and see how much their farm team can contribute if help is needed in Buffalo. With salary cap hitting the Sabres hard, help and reinforcement have to come from their farm team. Unless of course the Sabres trade their existing players for someone else, which I do not foresee. Too bad Darcy Regier did not have enough foresight to lock up most of the young players when they were so affordable salary wise. Then the Sabres would have plenty of cap room money to play with for outside help come playoffs.

exactly my point without going into much detail...

their young crop looks tight defensively... i liked (or disliked) the way they handled my Penguins last night.

Sabres do look like the #1 team ALL across the NHL... and i've been watching waaay too much hockey.

the only thing i can say, and maybe i can't even say it- but, leadership could be an issue come playoffs... they don't have that Brind'Amour, Scott Stevens, Patrick Roy, Ryan Smith 'whatever it takes' leader yet... well, he's there, just hasn't shown his ugly face, yet.... and when we are talkin' Brind'Amour, we do mean U-G-L-Y!!!

he's one character that hit too many branches when he fell out of the ugly tree!

The Senaturds win over Buffalo looks like a fluke as they lose to NJ last night. Look for the Sabres to take it to the 'turds in Ottawa for the rematch while the mighty TML dispose of the Devils tonight!

Holy Zeus, the Sabres are slow, tired, disorganized, and undisciplined tonight against the Senators. They played ugly hockey instead of their trade mark Sabres' hockey and the result is a 4-1 loss. It also ended Buffalo's 10 games road winning streak. Perhaps it is time for some good rest and get their legs going again. If it does not work, perhaps a Brind'Amour type personality is needed to administer some shock therapy to the Sabres.

i didn't mean to hijack this sens thread into a sabre thread... it's just the sabres are waaay more interesting to discuss.

scenic, shall we start a sabres thread? or keep our comments neatly hidden and encoded in this sens thread??? (it would surely avoid most of the sabre bashing you saw last season...)... something to consider, imo. i'll leave it to your good judgement.

Hey 21pro, not to take away the `glory` from the `mighty` Senators as they deserved to win the past Saturday night, the good doc agrees with you 100%that if we keep discussing the Sabres, we should have a Sabres thread. I already have a Sabres playoff thread from last season which I think we can continue to use come playoff time, unless if the Sabres surprised everyone by going down the drain early, which I hope not. So perhaps we need to have a regular season thread for the Sabres. Please go ahead and create one as your knowledge on NHL, including the Sabres, is second to none. :)

sounds good, doc!

hey, has anyone ever noticed how much bad luck the Sens have been at drafting talent in the early years?

1993 Daigle was picked before Pronger, Kariya, Gratton, R. Niedermayer, Kozlov, Bertuzzi, Koivu and Witt! (i remember Bob MacKenzie criticizing the Sens for going with Daigle on draft day)

1994 they picked Radek Bonk 3rd overall- before both Ryan Smyth and Ethan Moreau among others...

1995 was Berard... and he didn't fit in the Sens organization, but was probably their best pick of the early 90s...

1997 was Hossa- a great pick but they gave up on him too soon

1998 was a ripe year, and of course, the sens gave away their 1st round pick earlier...

2000 to present, though, they've seem to improve managing draft day as they've looked to have made some wise decisions...

G

GlavaMan

Berard was traded for Wade Redden.

The Sens had a deal done with Quebec....Daigle for Owen Nolan, Peter Foresberg, Chris Simon & $$$. Someone high up with the Sens nixed the deal at the last minute.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen. The Sens are on of the best drafting teams in the league

-They gave up on Hossa too soon. Yeah, that's right, he played for the organization for 6 years, and then he got greedy and mgmt sent a message.

-Redden = Berard, enough said (although interesting that Hossa was the one that took Berard's eye out)

-Daniel Alfredsson was Rd #6, 133 overall, not a bad choice in my books

-Alexei Yashin turned into Zdeno Chara and Jason Spezza, I would say Ottawa won that deal big time - even with the loss of Chara

Sens draft picks currently in the lineup ...

1) Chris Neil, 6th rd, 161st overall
2) Patrick Eaves, 1st rd, 29th overall
3) Chris Phillips, 1st rd, 1st overall
4) Jason Spezza, 1st rd, 2nd overall
5) Ray Emery, 4th rd, 99th overall
6) Mike Fisher, 2nd rd, 44th overall
7) Antoine Vermette, 2nd rd, 55th overall
8) Anton Volchenkov, 1st rd, 21st overall
9) Christoph Schubert, 4th rd, 127th overall
10) Andrej Meszaros, 1st rd, 23rd overall
11) Chris Kelly, 3rd rd, 95th overall
12) Daniel Alfredsson, 6th rd, 133rd overall

Ethan Moreau is not a great hockey player. Ryan Smyth just has that Edmonton "mucker" thing going on.

But yes, the Daigle deal, is an unavoidable one - Ottawa goofed on that one.
And I *GUARANTEE* there was no deal in place with Quebec for Daigle that included Forsberg et al., give your head a shake.

Hossa was traded for Heatley. No loss there.

As for Yashin, he twice signed a deal and twice wanted more money b4 completing his contract. Sens sent a message by taking him to court and then trading him. They got more than full value in return.

I would disagree that there was "no loss" with the Hoss/Heater trade. Heatley, no doubt about it, a talented player and gifted goal scorer. But Hossa can simply dominate a game, he's the best all round player in the NHL.

...I can think of at least a dozen guys I'd rather have on my team than Hossa...lets remember that he's one of those regular season guys....sucks ass when playoffs are here....

did you forget 1992? Yashin was a pretty damn good pick, don't you think?

Yashin that turned into Spezza and Chara.

I really don't think anyone really regrets not picking up a 3rd/4th liner like Ethan Moreau.

Berard was traded for Redden. So basically they drafted Redden... ummm. not too bad.

they gave up on Hossa? They traded him for Heatley. Fair deal, saved $2M on the cap.

Actually other then Daigle and Bonk there draft record has been good. And really Daigle was everyone consensus #1
