It still amazes me that people struggle with the concept that sex and gender are not the same thing.
Sex is your reproductive organs, and even then M and F are too limited. Everyone saying "there's only 2 sexes (or genders)," what about the people born with neither a penis nor a vagina? They don't fit in either box. What about those born with both? What about someone born with a vagina and gonads but no uterus? What about someone born with a penis but no gonads and a uterus? These things happen.
So it turns out even biological sex doesn't fit neatly into the two categories.
Then there's gender, which has two parts: gender identity and gender expression. Then there's sexuality, which can be straight, gay, bi, asexual.
For decades biological men walked around looking like women and everyone called them "her", "she", and "ma'am", and biological women walked around looking like men and everyone called them "he", "him", and "sir". Everyone was fine with that.
This is only a problem now because people don't like that not everyone that says they're a "she" looks like a she, and not everyone that says they're a "he" looks like a he. But those people also always existed.
In the Army I accidentally called several male officers ma'am, and several female officers sir. Because when everyone dresses the same there were always people that were hard to identify because they looked ambiguous, or straight do not look like the gender they are.
And despite Jordan Peterson getting everyone riled up about compelled speech, there is still no law on the books for that and we've got the anti-2SLGBTQ+ trying to compel what people should refer to themselves as. It went from "you can't tell me how to refer to you" to "I'm going to tell you how to refer to yourself."
It's lunacy how many people give a shit what people call themselves.
There are definitely biological females who look masculine and biological males who look feminine getting caught up in this crowd rallying against people being who they feel, and these hate-filled antis are missing that whole point. No one gets to be the police and demand to see genitals to determine if the gender expression and gender identity match the biological sex. If you say "he" and get corrected that it's "she", just say sorry and move on. Because you don't know what's under the pants/shorts/skirt/dress and it's none of your business.
