ON the contrary, it's on-field performance that makes you great, and Bonds will go down in history as one of the top two or three players of all-time.prelations said:why is barry bonds considered among the greats in this list?
he's not considered great anywhere else.
I can't name one great athlete that everyone didn't like.
He can be good, but it's your personality and off court endeavors and how your teammates and the rest of the world thinks of you, that makes you great.

I have to disagree with you.Ranger68 said:Not everybody liked (or likes) Gretzky, or Jordan, or Lemieux, or Schumacher, or Magic Johnson, or Clemens, or .......
Dude, you said you couldn't name one great athlete whom everybody didn't like.prelations said:I have to disagree with you.
a majority of people like jordan gretz etc.
but I can bet more people don't like barry than the people who do like him. Even his teammates.
When was the last time one of his teammates said something nice about him?
I think if you're great everyone loves you and admires you.
I think bonds is just good at what he does.
And what about Pele????antaeus said:Poll picks for North America are OK. As someone who's lived around the world though, it's:
#1 Muhammad Ali. No one comes close, worldwide. Based on clothing sales Air Jordan rules.
Oldsters talked about and mentioned endlessly in articles and tv all over Europe, Africa, Asia are:
Pele
Diego Maradona
Juan Fangio
Eddie Merckx, Indurain
Bjorn Borg, John Mcenroe, Ilie Nastase
and several F1 drivers - G. Villeneuve, Lauda, Prost, Piquet,
Keep in mind folks that F1 continues to draw more fans every race than NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB combined, even though its become the Michael Schumacher Show featuring the F1 and other nobodies.
Maradona though, in keeping with the post, would be the king.
My vote goes to Lance Armstrong.
