The 'great reset' no one asked for

In the high and palmy days of Rome, they didn’t have Google.

If a Roman centurion, or his predictably tedious and woke offspring, wanted to check on those damn Gauls and their tripartite province, or the latest woad tattoos from Londinium (heavy on the blue), they either had to unscroll Aristotle’s “Twitter” feed — a laborious process — or check with the local oracle.

Thankfully, we live in much happier times. The oracles are dead, and instead of Aristotle we have Google, the concierge for empty minds. Want to know something trivial or trendy, just tap into Google. So when I wished to learn about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s “reset” in the midst of a global pandemic, to Google I went. There they were, a multitude of links, not just about a “reset,” but a “great reset.”

But how could COVID-19, a medical calamity, provide a rationale for a total economic makeover? When someone breaks an arm, who responds by saying, “It’s time to repair the roof”? Does someone with a headache see it as an opportunity to mow the lawn? I think not.

Nevertheless, the raging pandemic, having wrecked the world’s economies, is being taken as a cue by various eminent globalists to pursue a totally unrelated agenda. Rather than being described as an opportunity, this should be seen as opportunism, pure and simple.

A combination of United Nations satraps, tech billionaires and, naturally, the apocalyptic environmental contingent have decided that this time of anxiety and disruption is the perfect moment to push their agenda.

To be sure, the push is not coming from the people bearing most of the costs of the COVID shutdowns. Tellingly, it is coming from a group of people whose wealth and power have exempted them from its stresses — people who are far removed from the day-to-day experience of the masses. Among them, it appears, is our own prime minister, as evidenced by some much-quoted statements he gave in a speech to the UN.

“This pandemic has provided an opportunity for a reset. This is our chance to accelerate our pre-pandemic efforts to re-imagine economic systems that actually address global challenges like extreme poverty, inequality and climate change,” he said.

What a stilted parade of mush. Someone in the Prime Minister’s Office actually had to write those flat, jargon-ripe and ultimately meaningless sentences. Check out some of its particulars.

When Trudeau says “this is our chance,” he’s really saying: “Let’s take advantage of everyone’s preoccupation with COVID and their health to introduce some mad agenda to create a green economy. We could never do this in normal times, but now, I can do it from the steps of my cottage. Green it is.”

And what, in any deity’s name, should we take from this phrase: this is our chance to “accelerate our pre-pandemic efforts to re-imagine economic systems”? Stop right there. What were those “pre-pandemic efforts” that now must be “accelerated”?

Most importantly, why is this an “opportunity”? The answer, of course, is because, before COVID, no one wanted the Liberals’ green schemes. Because in normal times, absent some vast crisis seizing everyone’s attention, any announcement of a so-called great reset would be laughed at by every adult in the nation, and all clear-headed children.

Trudeau has no grounds, and certainly no mandate, to “re-imagine” the Canadian economy. And he should be the last person to assume he can reinvent it at will, having plunged the country into a bottomless cavern of debt and deficits. Whatever else COVID may be, it is not a passport to a minority government, of seriously deficient economic competence, to reset, restate or rearrange Canada’s industrial foundation.

Finally, I think the word that should trouble us most in all of this is “imagine.” Think about it. Is it really a good idea to place economies under the servitude of amateur imaginations? You cannot dream an economy (although it is very possible, if you commit to the urgings of fantasy and wishful thinking, to kill the one we already have). And stepping outside Canada, the very last people we want “re-imagining” how the world should be arranged are the over-ardent, unaccountable global warming preachers.

If we are to re-imagine anything, let us re-imagine how to support all of our own citizens, from shopkeepers to farmers to grocery clerks to oil workers to truckers and health-care workers — in other words, all those who have carried the main burdens of this harsh and desperate time.

The government should do its best to work within the economy that actually exists. Because when this wretched pandemic finally dissipates, it will be the ones who have been sweating and labouring this entire time who will build it back again.

Someone has to ask Trudeau if Canada will produce its
own vaccine next time the pandemic strikes. That is after
his 'Great Reset' is in place.

No one asked for it? I guess Mr. Murphy has only been reading his own material for the past 9 or 10 months. A lot of people have been saying that a return to 'normal' would be a mistake, because the old normal was one of the reasons we're in this mess, and a major reason why we continue to have problems dealing with it, medically, politically, socially, and economically. Long past time that old Rex was put out to pasture.

So far Trudeau's 'reset' are promises like
aid to non-Canadians. Is that the 'reset'
Canadians have asked for?

This whole "Great Reset" Conspiracy Theory's been blown out of proportions especially by the alt right media on platforms like BitChute etc.
All I say is just take a deep breath and then breathe out slowly, as the world is not going to be like a computer going back to "Factory Settings". LOL!!

Open Letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

November 26, 2020

Recently, the phrase “The Great Reset” has received significant media coverage. On November 20, 2020 you down played discussion relating to the pandemic being used as a socialist reset as nothing more than a conspiracy theory from anxiety driven Conservative MPs.

The World Economic Forum specifically references the “The Great Rest” in these terms: “As we enter a unique window of opportunity to shape the recovery, this initiative will offer insights to help inform all those determining the future state of global relations, the direction of national economies, the priorities of societies, the nature of business models and the management of a global commons. Drawing from the vision and vast expertise of the leaders engaged across the Forum’s communities, the Great Reset initiative has a set of dimensions to build a new social contract that honours the dignity of every human being.”

Canadians who I have spoken with are worried. They are worried about COVID-19 and your government’s response. They are worried that their ability to provide for their families is disappearing. Not disappearing due to a virus, rather due to policies that their own government is enacting.

Before your government sets out on a global quest to end climate change and build a new social contract, Canadians are demanding that issues within our borders be addressed beforehand.

End long-term boil water advisories on all First Nation communities. (61 advisories – Feb 15/20)

Resolve the back log of veteran’s disability pension claims. (45,296 claims – June 30/20)

Work with applicable stakeholders to drastically improve conditions in long-term care facilities.

End transfer of funds to foreign jurisdictions until debt accumulated due to COVID-19 is repaid.

Consult with residents in all provinces to rebuild trust and build unity.
Support Canadian workers who have carried the main burdens of the pandemic.

Canadians are facing significant challenges and are looking for steady leadership as they navigate the numerous uncertainties that the pandemic has brought. On behalf of Canadians, I am urging you to put aside lofty global reset goals until the list of home-grown issues noted above, are fully resolved.

Sincerely,

Jared Pilon

The majority of Canadians want to do something about climate change and think the rich need to pay for more tax.
Deal with it.
The climate issue we will have to deal with is Trudeau's
plan to meet net-zero emission target by 2050 is meant
to sucker voters. We will be lucky to see emission stop
growing in the coming years.

Nowadays leftists seem to have lost all respect for democracy and are convinced they know what's best for everybody. They won't bother to ask. They'll just impose it on you.
Are you calling Donald Trump a leftist?

What is your absurd basis for blaming a health crisis on democracy and capitalism?
Was because you could not figure out how to blame a virus on climate change?
Long past the time you might consider old Rex could be right

Covid is simply not a factor for the likes of Trudeau. No wonder these parasites see it as an opportunity to push their pet projects.

Even Alberta knows you're wrong.

If that is true climate change should very
soon be no longer an issue. Capitalism will
not even need to be reset. Since solar and
wind are cleaner and more profitable than oil
and gas profit oriented capitalists will get the
job of fighting climate change done for
hefty financial rewards. They will
join the gold rush into solar and wind power
industry to reset our way of living
on their own without government subsidies.
When natural gas is phased out as a fuel for
power generation by wind and solar power it may
become a cheaper alternative transportation
fuel to Tesla batteries. But that shouldn't
be a concern--EV is a lot more easier to
refuel than a natural gas vehicle. People
will gladly install solar panels or rooftops
in residential and commercial buildings
to cut cost on their monthly electric bills.
The society will convert to alternative
energy with only minimal intrusion from the
government required.

In such scenario would our government
need "Great Reset" as an excuse to spend
more of our money?

BTW, I am actually in favour of raising tax on the
top 10% earners. My intent is not meant to enable
our government to continue their profligate spending
but for them to pay off the debt. I also believe earners
beneath the top 10% should bear the cost of debt payment
to some extent. If the top 10% is taxed to the bone taxes on
the 30% below should be raised as well for fairness.
Given that climate change is soon to be resolved the
debt burden on our children and grand children should
become the more urgent issue to tackle by our leaders.

Why should people be punished for being successful ?
I think we should have 1 tax rate for EVERYONE! That is the purest form of equality, or is equality just like feminism, where you get to pick and chose when it works to the persons advantage

Not my opinion...the super rich have made a lot of money from the country and it's laws and policies, not to mention the people inside it...they can afford to give back.

The absolute requirement for debt reduction is having government spending reigned in. zero chance of that happening during the pandemic
There is no way in hell you can address a growing debt load if the fool in change continues to run massive deficits
The Great Rest is going to call for even more massive government spending

The debt you dislike is going to be haunting your grandchildren& their kids
That is a given now .....Justin mis-management of the finances has sealed that deal already

If the "Great Reset" happens,...... well lets hope your grandkids and their kids would not have valued personal freedoms or the opportunity for individual success
